Chapter 496 Where Can She Hide?
As Donovan was heading out, he spotted a recommendation form on Cynthia's desk. The first name on the list was Chloe, and her photo caught his eye. She looked stunning with her sleek long hair, bright big eyes, and a gentle, beautiful demeanor. She definitely looked different from before.
Donovan noticed Cynthia had given Chloe an A+ rating, which was pretty impressive. A satisfied smile spread across Donovan's face, like he was seeing his daughter ace a test. "I'm heading out."
"Yeah, it's late. You should get some rest. By the way, where are you off to tonight?" Cynthia asked.
Donovan hesitated for a moment but then said, "Going to Kenneth's place."
Cynthia didn't say much, but she had noticed Donovan pause at the desk earlier. It seemed like anything related to Chloe grabbed his attention.
Instead of going straight to Kenneth's, Donovan swung by Chloe's place. He knocked on her door for a while, but there was no answer.
"Chloe," he called out loudly, but still no response. Just as he was about to pull out his phone to call her, the neighbor across the hall stepped out.
"Oh, Mr. Blake. Looking for Ms. Baker?" The neighbor asked, rubbing her sleepy eyes. She must've been in bed already.
"Yeah."
"Ms. Baker went out to deliver food this afternoon and hasn't come back yet," the neighbor said.
"Hasn't come back?" Donovan frowned.
"No," the neighbor thought for a moment and confirmed, "She really hasn't come back."
"Thanks." Donovan left and headed to Kenneth's place, thinking, 'I really planned to stay at her place tonight, but she's not there. Did she guess I was coming and decided to avoid me? Where could she be?'
Barbara ended up losing the lead role in "The Queen," and didn't even snag a supporting role. She was completely out of the picture for this show.
Pamela had a sharp eye. She had superficially promised Barbara that if she messed up Donovan and Chloe's relationship, she'd get the role. But Pamela thought she knew Barbara didn't have the chops for this show.
She might be okay as a villainous supporting character, but as the lead? No way. Pamela's promise was just to keep her quiet. She knew Barbara wouldn't be able to break up Donovan and Chloe, and she was not risking her career for Barbara. This time, Pamela wanted to create a blockbuster show. On the other hand, Pamela was already aware of Jeffery's situation. Knowing he was no longer useful, she stopped paying attention to him.
Recently, Pamela had returned to Emerald Isle to handle some family matters.
After filming at the school wrapped up, Barbara didn't head back to Maple Valley right away. Instead, she hung around Pearl Peak University, while Betty stayed at the hotel. Barbara stuck around because she had her eyes on Jeffery. If she could land a role in a drama in Pearl Peak City and start a romance with Jeffery, that would be perfect.
Today, Jeffery was heading to class with a book in hand when he spotted Barbara on campus.
"Barbara?" Jeffery didn't know about the drama between Barbara and Chloe and had always been polite to her.
"Jeffery?" Barbara acted like she just bumped into him, looking thrilled.
"Barbara, what are you doing here?" Jeffery asked.
"Are you going to class? Can I come with you? I've finished filming and have nothing to do, just killing time," Barbara said.
Jeffery checked the time on his phone; there was still half an hour before class. "Sure, it's still early. If you want to come to class with me, that's fine. This class is big, and the teacher won't notice. I'll grab you a coffee."
Passing by a coffee shop, Jeffery didn't hesitate and went in.
