Chapter 613 Conspiracy
"I need to go to Pearl Peak City," Donovan said to Chloe.
Actually, she had overheard Charles calling him earlier; something must have happened at the Rebecca Residential Community.
She wanted to ask Donovan how serious it was and to tell him to be careful on the road, but since they had just argued, Chloe said nothing.
She heard him open the door, close it, and start the car.
Chloe leaned against the window for a long time, thinking that something serious must have happened given his urgency. Gordon had gone mad years ago because someone died in his building, as if it were fate—what happened to the father would also happen to the son.
From what Charles said, it seemed like the media was about to expose the incident, indicating a major upheaval at the Rebecca Residential Community.
Chloe paced around the room and didn't sleep all night.
When Donovan arrived in Pearl Peak City, it was 2 AM. Charles was staying at his grandfather's house and was still awake.
"How's it going?" Donovan asked as he pushed the door open.
"Here's the situation: someone wrote an article, and we've blocked all media from getting the news. Now, Pearl Peak City Focus is about to publish it. We've been very cautious with media investigations; no ordinary person could get in. I don't know how they wrote this article. Usually, we can settle small media outlets with money, but not this one. The editor-in-chief, Sidney, is very proud, and Pearl Peak City Focus can't be bought. He says he has a responsibility to the people of Pearl Peak City," Charles explained.
"Give me his phone number."
"Don't waste your time; he's already turned off his phone and gone to bed," Charles said. "Unless you go to his house to find him, but I've been locked out several times. Sidney is very stubborn."
Donovan said, "No choice then. Does he have any family? Vulnerabilities?"
"Don't even mention it; I've thought of everything. He's alone," Charles replied.
"Find me his classmates," Donovan said again.
"That's a wide range, and he doesn't care about personal connections."
Timothy's phone rang again. He cried to Donovan over the phone, "Mr. Blake, we've already bought the land. If the houses don't sell, we're doomed! What we feared has come true!"
"Don't worry, I've got this," Donovan said.
Donovan sat on the couch, deep in thought.
Just as he was thinking, his phone rang. It was Cynthia.
It was now past 4 AM, and Cynthia was calling him.
"What is it?" he asked.
From the beginning, Donovan had never had a good impression of Cynthia, and his attitude was always indifferent.
"Donovan, I heard Sidney is going to publish an article early in the morning. Is it about the Rebecca Residential Community?" Cynthia asked anxiously.
Donovan frowned slightly. "How do you know?"
"Sidney and I were college classmates. He pursued me once. He's currently laying out the article and plans to publish it early in the morning. Do you know about this?" Cynthia sounded more anxious than Donovan.
"I know. Can you stop him from publishing it?" Whenever Cynthia called Donovan, he sensed some kind of scheme, feeling like the whole thing was a conspiracy.
"I know the Rebecca Residential Community is important to you. I thought you had already taken measures. I'll see if he can give me some face. Just wait," Cynthia said before hanging up.
Donovan kept fiddling with his phone, feeling less anxious.
