Chapter 246 Insane
Donovan asked that, his gaze locking onto Chloe firmly.
"Of course I care about my babies," she pondered for a moment and replied.
"You've always been afraid of me, so why would you ask for my help?" Donovan questioned Chloe again.
"I'm carrying Brayden's child, so why did you bring me here to live with you?" Chloe retorted.
"Maybe I'm insane. I don't want someone who once belonged to me to become someone else's," Donovan said casually, "Besides, I've always disliked him."
He seemed not ashamed of his so-called insanity but proud, as if saying, "I have money and power. You can't do anything to fight me."
"If you don't provide me with a driver and a car, if anything happens to me under your watch, the whole of Maple Valley will condemn you," Chloe said, adopting a righteous demeanor.
Donovan chuckled nonchalantly. "Would I fear that?"
"I know you're not afraid of anything," Chloe said.
Donovan probably didn't want to continue wasting time with Chloe. He said, "I'll give you a car. The driver will come in the afternoon, and Maya will accompany you when you go out. I'm off to work."
"Alright. Thank you," Chloe said politely.
As Donovan was about to leave, he suddenly turned back, lifting Chloe's chin, his gaze cold.
"You're welcome."
His tone was full of sarcasm.
After he left, the atmosphere in the room lightened.
Chloe sighed and sat on the sofa, picking up her phone.
Brayden had a group chat called the First Accounting Firm Business Project Team, consisting of Brayden, Chloe, and ten others.
These were all the employees of the First Accounting Firm so far.
All ten of them were graduate students who had obtained their CPA licenses. It made Chloe, an undergraduate, feel somewhat embarrassed to assign tasks to them.
As a startup company, everyone at the First Accounting Firm was enthusiastic. They shared new projects and progress and completed projects in the group every day.
Carol Scott: [Been here at the company for roughly two weeks, I've already spearheaded three projects. How many has Ms. Baker knocked out? Oh, and by the way, I haven't even caught a glimpse of Ms. Baker yet.]
Since Ellie's incident, Chloe hadn't been back to the company and hadn't seen this Carol. However, Carol retracted her statement shortly after.
But Chloe still saw it, feeling uneasy.
Brayden sent Chloe a list of potential projects via private message.
Brayden: [I've compiled this list. If you're free, pick some projects and complete them on your own. Okay?]
Chloe: [Okay.]
Brayden: [Take care of yourself. Do it within your limits.]
Chloe: [Got it.]
Chloe knew exactly why Brayden had dumped this task onto her plate. The graduate-staffed workforce had more than a few grumbles about being led by an undergrad. Her auditor's certification was fresh off the press this year, placing her at the intern level in any regular firm.
Moreover, Chloe had not invested in this firm. Her abilities were insufficient to command respect.
Chloe vowed to secure several significant projects, establish her reputation, and prove herself.
She spent the afternoon in her bedroom making phone calls and contacting two companies: Green Earth Solutions Company and Elevate Structures Group.
Chloe reviewed all the information about these two companies. Green Earth Solutions Company was relatively small, so the orders should be easier to secure. As for Elevate Structures Group, the leadership structure was unclear, and being a medium-sized enterprise, it might pose more challenges.
At three in the afternoon, the driver, who Donovan had arranged for Chloe, came. The driver was a woman named Susan Weaver.
It was rare for a woman to be a driver for a leader.
Chloe was surprised by Donovan's arrangement.
"Mrs. Blake, I will be your driver from now on. Please add my phone number and WhatsApp account, and contact me if you need anything. Your car is a blue BMW 7 Series. I took a photo for you."
Indeed, Susan was a very attentive female driver.
Chloe had no trouble communicating with her.
"Tomorrow, I'll be visiting Green Earth Solutions Company and Elevate Structures Group. I'll send you the locations in the evening," Chloe said.
After confirming her task, Susan left.
Chloe reviewed the projects she had worked on until six pm, when she heard the sound of the door opening, followed by Donovan and Maya talking.
"Did she take her medicine?" Donovan asked Maya.
"Yes, she did. Shall we have dinner?" Maya asked.
Just as Chloe was eavesdropping on the conversation between the two, the door was opened.
Donovan held the door handle of Chloe's room and said to her, "Come out for dinner."
