Chapter 418 He Wanted to Get Married
Seeing Jeffery's expression, Donovan got even more curious. Maya had mentioned that Jeffery had received plenty of love letters but never showed interest, probably because his standards were high.
"Did you spot the girl you like?" Donovan asked, noticing Jeffery's reaction.
"She just walked by downstairs."
"Is it fate?" Donovan teased.
"Hopefully," Jeffery replied.
"Is she someone from undergrad or grad school?" Donovan asked while serving Francis some food. Maybe seeing Chloe today made Donovan more interested in others' love lives.
"She just joined our school," Jeffery said, still lost in thought about Chloe.
"A freshman or a new grad student?" Donovan pressed.
"Are you investigating for my mom? I'll let her know if there's progress."
"I care about you. Is that a crime?"
Jeffery smiled. "Of course not."
Donovan sighed, thinking, 'His smile could probably make many women swoon. I'm getting old. These young folks are impressive.'
Just then, Donovan's phone rang. It was Charles.
Donovan knew what Charles wanted but answered anyway.
"Donovan, she didn't come," Charles said.
"I know."
"You know?" Charles was puzzled.
"I'll explain later. I'm having dinner with Jeffery." Donovan hung up.
While cutting his steak, Donovan thought, 'She must've known Stellar Corp's partner was New East Group and avoided the meeting to dodge me.'
Distracted, Donovan finished dinner and told Jeffery, "Let me know when you win her over!"
"Sure. I'll bring her to meet you."
Donovan left with Francis. When they got back to Kenneth's house, Charles was already there.
"Donovan, what's her deal? You don't go, and she doesn't either," Charles said, looking anxious.
"Keep an eye on Francis. I'm taking a shower," Donovan said, ignoring Charles' question.
Charles fell silent, left to worry alone.
Francis, sitting on the couch, asked Charles, "Do you know the number of the girl from today? My dad wants to marry her, and I want to help."
Charles was confused. "Which girl? When did your dad decide to get married?"
"The girl we saw at Grandpa's house this afternoon."
Charles thought carefully, 'I have called Donovan earlier about Chloe not attending the meeting, and Donovan said he knew. Then Francis mentioned a girl at Kenneth's house. Could it be Chloe?'
Charles got excited. "Then use your dad's phone to call her. Do you know his password?"
Francis whispered, "I know, but my dad doesn't know I know. Keep it a secret."
"Okay, hurry up and call."
Francis glanced towards the restroom, then dialed the number Charles had given him.
Thanks to his job, Charles had managed to get Chloe's new phone number.
