Chapter 151 Why Cry When Your Man Isn't Dead Yet?

Donovan walked in.
He casually put his hand in his pocket. He had come in to the office to get some documents.
This time, the meeting was about restructuring the finance department, with cooperation from other departments.
Apart from the restructuring, they also needed to clean up the mess from the James era and prepare next year's budget. The meeting was expected to drag on until late at night.
He saw Chloe standing by his desk, tears streaming down her face.
"What's wrong? I'm not dead yet, why are you crying?" he asked, walking over to Chloe and putting his arm around her shoulder.
Chloe resisted and pushed him away.
"So, it was you who did it," Chloe said.
Initially, Donovan thought "it" referred to Paisley having already compressed the video and sent it to Chloe.
"It was me. So what?" Donovan didn't like Chloe's tone.
"I can't believe you'd do that!"
"So what?" Donovan retorted, walking to the desk to get the documents.
He glanced at the computer screen and saw the messages Jacob had sent him.
Chloe had messaged him on WhatsApp just as he entered the meeting room, which was now in session, so he hadn't checked his phone and didn't know Jacob had messaged him.
He gave Chloe a mocking look. "So you're not crying for me."
"Why? Why did you do this? How did he offend you? Liking me is also a mistake! Nothing happened between us!" Chloe shouted hoarsely.
Donovan sneered. "I find it displeasing!"
"If you find so many people and things displeasing, do you have to eradicate them all?" Chloe broke down in tears.
What had Brayden done wrong?
Donovan clenched his teeth tightly, furious.
"Don't cry and make a scene in front of me for him!" Donovan was angry.
"You ruined him!" Chloe said. Even if Donovan didn't like Brayden, he shouldn't have used such despicable methods.
"Ruined him? Do you feel sorry?" Donovan asked coldly.
Chloe was speechless.
"Let's get a divorce!" Chloe said, calming herself. "I don't want to be with someone who doesn't understand me."
She knew Donovan couldn't understand many things about her.
Also, Donovan had just glanced at the screen and seemed to have just found out about what Jacob had done.
Perhaps what he answered before was different from what Chloe said.
So, what was he referring to in his response?
How many things had he done that Chloe didn't know about?
Now she was burdened with the accusation of putting those who had helped her in trouble.
Maybe one day he would sell her out, and she would still be left holding the bag for him!
"Divorce?" Donovan looked at her coldly. "You married me for money, and now what? You want someone else? I can't meet your demands, so now you want a divorce?"
Chloe remained silent, just stubbornly raising her head.
At least everything before had made her think that he cared for her.
"Your mom is better, so you want a divorce? Don't forget, I have the final say!" Donovan said.
Chloe was speechless, mainly because there was nothing to say.
She hadn't expected her mom to recover so soon. Most importantly, there was also Donovan's grandfather.
Donovan found the documents and firmly grasped Chloe's chin. "I'm going to the meeting now. You'd better think about what you've done!"
Think? Chloe didn't know what she needed to think about.
Was it because she was caught cheating by him? Or was there something else that she wasn't aware of?
None of it!
She just felt that she couldn't stand by and watch someone who had helped her be suppressed by Donovan. Would Brayden's future be ruined? If Brayden sued, the court would take the case.
Donovan left.
He hated seeing her cry like this for Brayden.
Although he had been suppressing Brayden all along, it was clear that Chloe was becoming more sympathetic toward him.
This emotion made Donovan feel very uneasy.
And Jacob, why couldn't he have sent the messages at a different time? Why did Chloe have to see them?
Chloe couldn't stay in his office for a moment longer. After calming herself down, she returned to the audit department.
Throughout the day, Chloe was absent-minded. Victoria nudged her several times, asking about work matters, and Chloe's responses were vague.
"You're about to receive an award, and you're in this mood?" Victoria said to Chloe.
"An award? What award?" Chloe's mind finally returned for a moment.
"Our audit department has thoroughly investigated the finance department. Mr. Blake has been wanting to investigate James for a long time, and this time it's finally done efficiently and effectively. Naturally, our entire audit department will be rewarded, probably after Christmas, definitely before the New Year," Victoria said as she organized the materials.
Chloe was stunned. The people in the audit department had deep thoughts. At least Donovan had wanted to investigate the James matter a long time ago, something she didn't know.
After Jacob did this, he felt he had done Donovan a huge favor. Brayden was now with Ellie, so there was probably no chance for him and Chloe. Donovan had nothing to worry about.
After today's events, Jacob felt triumphant. New East International was a well-known large enterprise.
"Jacob, do you know people at New East International?" Jacob was surprised to pique someone's interest.
The person asking the question was Jacob's cousin, Barbara.
"Yes. I know them, and they're not ordinary people."
"Jacob, let's chat privately."
Barbara then started a private chat with Jacob.
Barbara had failed the college entrance exam and studied marketing at a university in another city. After graduating, with no one to help her at home and no particular advantages, she was now a salesperson at a paper mill in Sunshine Bay City.
Barbara had lofty ambitions and naturally didn't want to lead a mediocre life in Sunshine Bay City. But if she wanted to go to a big city, she had no connections.
"Jacob, I want to join the sales department at New East Group. Do you know anyone there? Can you help me out?" Barbara asked.
"Sales? Easy. Just give me some time. And don't let Chloe know about me introducing you to this job," Jacob warned.
Chloe and Jacob had never had a good relationship since childhood, and Barbara was aware of this.
"Don't worry, Jacob. By the way, where should I stay in Maple Valley?" Barbara asked.
"Stay at my place. I just got a new house. Chloe and my mom are staying in the old house," Jacob replied.
Barbara was excited at the thought of starting work in Maple Valley soon, and she was sure Chloe wasn't living as well as Jacob since she hadn't bought a new house.
