Chapter 291 Going to Help
New East Group.
Donovan's office.
Mario knocked on Donovan's office door.
"Donovan, if we don't hire more people for the audit department, I'm going to be in deep trouble. Arguments like the one with Charles will keep happening. We have so many tasks now; what should we do?" Mario was not typically an anxious person, but this year, the audit department had too many assignments.
"I'll contact the HR department. If they find a suitable candidate, you can interview them directly," Donovan said, picking up the phone on his desk and dialing.
The audit department had been recruiting, but as they were seeking top-notch candidates, the HR department was not willing to compromise. Numerous applicants were screened out in the initial interview round.
"Alright, I've spoken to HR," Donovan said to Mario after finishing the call.
" The audit department is already swamped. Victoria just suggested something to me, and I think we should give it a shot. She wants Chloe to come and assist her. Chloe has experience working on accounts for Elevate Structures Group and knows the situation well. She's not new to this. I'm just concerned that you might not be on board," Mario explained.
"Let Victoria contact her directly. If she agrees to come, I have no objections," Donovan said after a moment of thought.
Mario gave a thumbs-up and went upstairs.
He conveyed Donovan's opinion to Victoria.
Victoria sent Chloe a WhatsApp message: [Hey Chloe, can you give me a hand with the work? I'm swamped and can't get it all done, even if I work around the clock. There's just too much on my plate. If you could pitch in, you'd be in charge of the Elevate Structures Group project. You know it well, so it should be a breeze. Are you up for it?]
Chloe was just sitting on the couch reading a pregnancy book.
Chloe replied: [Whose idea?]
Victoria: [Whose idea? Mine. I applied through Mario, and he said it's okay.]
Chloe thought to herself, 'Victoria, the accountant, was a very reliable person. She wouldn't ask for help unless she really needed it.'
Also, when Chloe visited New East Group the other day, she noticed that the audit department was swamped with work. In contrast, Chloe had a lot of free time.
Since she had already informed Donovan about her upcoming trip abroad and he had given his approval, Chloe didn't see any reason to decline the request from New East Group.
Chloe replied: [Okay.]
Victoria was overjoyed.
Victoria: [I was hoping you could come help me right now, but considering you're pregnant, can you come tomorrow instead?]
Chloe: [Okay.]
In the afternoon, Donovan came back and Chloe told him about the matter.
"You agreed?" Donovan asked her.
Yes, Victoria hardly ever asks for help. If I don't lend a hand, I might come off as cold-hearted," Chloe remarked. "Plus, the audit department is swamped. They even had a disagreement.”
For his sake, she had to go, didn't she?
"Do you want me to take you to work tomorrow?" he asked, looking Chloe up and down.
"Oh, no need. I've been feeling very tired lately. I want to go later in the day and bring some work home to do. I'll have Susan drive me," Chloe said seriously.
"Audit work is very tiring," Donovan warned Chloe in advance.
"I'm not afraid."
Donovan didn't say anything else, but he could sense that Chloe was incredibly determined. When she made up her mind about something, she would follow through until the end. That night, as they were getting ready for bed, Chloe emerged from the bathroom and walked past Donovan.
"Haven't you applied iodine to your hand?" Donovan asked.
"No need. It'll be fine in a couple of days. Besides, we're going to sleep, and applying iodine would make the bed dirty."
"Be careful."
"Okay."
Chloe climbed into bed and rolled over to the other side. At eleven, Donovan switched off the light. As he settled in to sleep, he naturally reached out and held Chloe. When his hand landed on Chloe's belly, she noticed how warm it felt.
