Chapter 290 Seen Right Through by Him
Today, a heavy rain fell, and thunder rumbled outside. However, because the soundproofing in the nightclub's private room was quite good, the people inside the room did not notice.
Donovan walked to the door.
"Mr. Blake, it's raining. Here's an umbrella for you," the waiter said, holding out an umbrella to Donovan.
"No need," Donovan replied, and then he went to the nightclub entrance and got into his car.
He checked his watch; it was already eleven o'clock at night.
She was probably asleep. Ever since she became pregnant, she had been going to bed early and waking up late.
However, he hoped she wasn't asleep. He hoped she was waiting for him, keeping the door unlocked. His car headed towards Serenity Springs Estates.
The thunder and heavy rain outside made Chloe uneasy. Her babies were moving a lot in her belly, and she was worried about Donovan.
She knew he didn't take an umbrella today and wondered if he got wet in the rain.
Feeling uneasy, she tried to act nonchalant and resisted calling him. Plus, he was at a nightclub, and she didn't want to bother.
She paced around the room, clutching her stomach, and accidentally hit her hand on the desk corner, resulting in a bruise on the back of her right hand.
Restless, she began jotting down in her diary about his forgetfulness with the umbrella, her concerns for him, and the mixed emotions of wanting to show care but holding back.
After finishing her writing, he still hadn't returned. Chloe quickly got into bed until she heard the sound of the door locking.
She didn't want him to know she was worried about him. She lay on her side, closed her eyes, and silently listened to the noises outside.
He entered, changed his shoes in the hallway, came in, and didn't turn on the light. She was already asleep, not waiting for him as he had anticipated.
Donovan went to the bathroom outside to freshen up.
Thirty minutes later, Donovan climbed into bed, turned on the light, and held Chloe as he drifted off to sleep.
Chloe was awake the whole time. She didn't sleep a wink that night. The next morning, when he got up to put on his shirt, she was still awake.
He gently tapped Chloe's face and then headed to the living room to eat.
"Mr. Blake, what time did you come back last night?" Maya asked Donovan at the dining table.
"Almost twelve. What time did Chloe go to bed?"
"It was pouring rain last night. She headed back to her room early. I'm guessing that even if she went to bed, she probably didn't sleep well, likely worrying about you. She does care about you, but she doesn't express it. It's tough for her," Maya said.
"Really?" Donovan said.
He didn't believe it.
"Yeah, I got up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and heard her pacing in her room. It must have been because of you," Maya said, trying to mend their relationship.
In fact, she hadn't gotten up at all last night. She just said that to make Donovan happy.
"By the way, what were you doing at the nightclub yesterday?" Maya asked again.
"Is that your question?"
"Of course not. It's Chloe who wants to know," Maya explained.
"If she wants to know, she can ask me herself when she gets up."
Maya fell silent.
Donovan continued eating.
As he was about to leave after finishing his meal, Chloe emerged from the bedroom. Chloe hadn't slept well the previous night and appeared very exhausted.
"Are you leaving?" Chloe asked him.
"Yes," Donovan replied, as if waiting for Chloe to ask him.
"Chloe, didn't you want to ask Mr. Blake what he was doing yesterday? He's right here. Ask him," Maya said.
"I..." Chloe frowned slightly, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
She didn't want Donovan to realize how much she cared about him.
"Matthew asked me out yesterday. There was something to discuss," Donovan said to Chloe. "Anything else you want to know?"
"I..." Chloe was even more at a loss for words.
"If there's nothing else, I'm leaving." With that, Donovan took his car keys and prepared to leave.
"What happened to your hand?" Donovan noticed the bruise on Chloe's hand.
"It's nothing. I accidentally bumped it last night," Chloe replied.
"Restless last night?" Donovan asked her.
Chloe responded with a "Hmm."
"Because of me?" Donovan asked again.
"I..."
All morning, Chloe struggled to find the right words, hesitating and repeating "I" three times before ultimately staying silent.
Donovan could easily see through her thoughts. Chloe shouldn't have moved in because once she did, Donovan could see right through her.
Donovan smiled, patted Chloe's head a few times, and then left the room.
