Chapter 408 Managing Major Projects
Chloe didn't let Jeffery's words bother her. With some time before the school year started, she stayed in her cozy house, reading and aiming to publish more papers in international journals. She also caught up with Cynthia.
Cynthia lived on campus too, but in a different dorm, Tranquil Haven Estates. They met casually at the school cafeteria. Seeing Chloe again, Cynthia was amazed. Chloe wore a sky-blue shirt and white Bermuda shorts—simple but high-quality, making her look stylish.
Chloe had started focusing on quality over quantity in her wardrobe, making each piece a gem.
"Chloe, it's been three years since Verdania. I knew we'd meet again," Cynthia said.
Chloe smiled. "Thanks to you, I became a teacher in Pearl Peak City."
"You had the talent; I just made the introduction. So, what are your plans before the school year starts?"
In the cool, air-conditioned cafeteria, Chloe replied, "I'm writing papers and planning to visit Stellar Corp. They offered me a position as an independent director, which suits me. I need to talk to them."
Chloe carried herself with ease and confidence, exuding a sense of comfort and poise.
There was something mesmerizing about her, a quality that made one want to get lost in her presence.
Cynthia admired Chloe. "That's great. Being an independent director pays well. You'll have plenty of admirers in Pearl Peak City. But you'll need to manage your time—teaching, supervising students, and working part-time."
"Yeah, it's fine. Why are you still living on campus?" Chloe asked, curious since married teachers usually bought houses off-campus.
Cynthia's expression hardened slightly, and Chloe realized she had asked an awkward question.
"If you need anything, just let me know," Cynthia said warmly.
"Okay," Chloe felt touched.
Chloe then contacted Stellar Corp to schedule an interview.
"Ms. Baker, since you're back, come chat with us. With your qualifications, an interview isn't really necessary. Our boss values you, and having a Ph.D. from Unity College will boost our profile. Please, come meet us," the HR director said.
"Sure."
The next day, Chloe visited Stellar Corp Investments, a large company in the city center. Timothy personally greeted Chloe, reminiscing about their first encounter in Unity city. He praised her for her intellect and grace, which had left a lasting impression on him.
Chloe was thoroughly impressed with the Stellar Corp.
Timothy was inclined to share some of their latest projects with Chloe, but considering their confidentiality, he refrained from doing so.
Chloe reviewed the contract carefully. The salary was one million a year, with no daily attendance required, but she would oversee major projects and receive year-end bonuses.
Seeing the responsibility of overseeing major projects, Chloe felt a strong sense of mission and responsibility. She realized how easily knowledge could be converted into money and felt she had finally fulfilled her promise to her mom.
