Chapter 263 You're So Skilled at Cheating

Chloe was completely stunned.
'He can't dictate my life like this! In January next year, I will be studying abroad and cannot work at New East Group.' Chloe thought to herself.
Chloe's hand holding the fork trembled as she ate.
"I'm not going!" Chloe said angrily.
Donovan sat there silently, not saying a word, as if implying, "You don't have a say in this."
Chloe was so upset that she couldn't eat anymore.
By chance, she saw her broken cross on the floor next to the coffee table. She walked over to pick it up.
The cross was already broken in half.
The more Chloe tried to squat down, the more agitated she became, her face turning red with anger.
But she didn't want to argue with him. She knew she couldn't win, and it would be a waste of energy.
Donovan watched her all along, then silently got up, picked up the cross, and placed it on the dining table for Chloe.
Chloe returned to the dining table in silence, not saying a word.
There was a knock on the door.
Donovan went to open it, and Brayden stood outside.
After opening the door, Donovan didn't say a word; he just went back to sit on the sofa.
"Chloe?" Brayden called out to Chloe.
"Here." Chloe emerged from her earlier anger and emotional turmoil, "Let's go to my room and talk."
"Talk here!" Donovan coldly interjected.
Brayden was afraid that if Chloe didn't follow Donovan's instructions, it would cause trouble for her, so he sat opposite Chloe.
He noticed the broken cross on the table.
He had donated thirty thousand dollars to get that cross from the church, and fearing that Chloe wouldn't accept it, he deliberately said it was a gift from Betty.
Last time, Chloe returned the bracelet to him after finishing her exam.
"How did it break?" Brayden asked.
Chloe felt a bit embarrassed, especially since she had just started wearing it yesterday, "I almost tripped while taking a bath last night."
"Are you okay?" Brayden grabbed one of Chloe's hands in a hurry.
Chloe felt extremely embarrassed. She glanced at Donovan quietly. Although Donovan was reading with his head down, the corner of his eye must have caught what they were doing.
Chloe felt that Donovan had changed. Previously, he might have restrained himself due to his divorce from Chloe, killing Amelia, Chloe's pregnancy, and many other reasons he didn't mention. But since that night they slept together again, he became shameless about everything.
He had once again become the Donovan who made Brayden kneel before him.
"Is your wrist injured, too?" Brayden asked anxiously.
"It was from slipping in the shower," Chloe covered up once again.
"Is the baby okay?" Brayden asked again.
"It should be fine. It's quite big now." Chloe answered.
Brayden had a lot on his mind to tell Chloe, but with Donovan around, he couldn't.
Chloe thought he was going to ask her about leaving the First Accounting Firm, but he didn't mention it at all.
However, there was a hint of worry between Brayden's brows, and Chloe didn't know why.
"Chloe, did you get the email?" he asked.
At first, Chloe didn't understand what Brayden was talking about, but then she realized he was probably referring to her graduate school offer.
She shook her head disappointedly.
"Don't worry. It's still early." Brayden reassured her.
"Hopefully," Chloe said.
"Chloe, there are many things that we can't stop with our efforts, so relax." Brayden lowered his head, looking very sorry.
Chloe nodded.
After finishing her meal, Brayden cleared her bowl and washed it.
Today, Brayden's attitude was quite humble.
He stayed at Chloe's house for a while and then left.
"You're very skilled at cheating," Donovan put down his book and said to Chloe in a leisurely manner.
Chloe didn't want to deal with him. She wanted to go back to her room, feeling a stomach ache from Donovan's provocation.
She wanted to watch a show to ease her mood.
As soon as she picked up her phone, she noticed a notification from the group chat of First Accounting Firm. The firm had been acquired, and the new majority shareholder was Virgil Scott. Carol added Virgil to the group, and he sent a message to all staff: [As the new majority shareholder of the company, I would like to announce some personnel changes. Given that we are a high-end firm and prioritize customer value education, any staff member with an education level below graduate level need not report to work. The company will provide severance pay.]
Chloe was stunned when she read it.
Although it didn't explicitly mention anyone, Virgil almost called out Chloe's name.
Most importantly, she hadn't invested in the firm; Brayden had asked her to contribute labor.
She finally understood why Brayden looked so conflicted. He had known all along.
She realized that someone with ill intentions might be trying to push her out, but she also knew that her education was indeed her weak point.
Chloe sat there blankly while Brayden's messages kept coming through on WhatsApp.
But Chloe absentmindedly held her phone, staring at the ground ahead.
"Chloe," Donovan called from outside.
He called her several times, but she didn't respond.
