Chapter 222 Mrs. Blake?
Brayden was at Suncrest University for further studies, taking simpler courses compared to Chloe, who was always buried in books and stressed out.
He would sometimes try to find Chloe, but she was rarely available; she spent most of her time in the library, often staying overnight.
Time flew by. One day, Donovan messaged Chloe asking, [Why didn't you go to Willowbrook College?]
Chloe chose not to respond.
During her time in Verdania, Chloe's appearance changed as she became darker and thinner.
She decided to get a stylish, short haircut. After four months, in October, Chloe came back home for exams.
Her intention was to leave and return without much fanfare. Before her departure, Brayden made a point to place a bracelet on her wrist.
Chloe smiled, "Aren't you supposed to give me a cross?"
The bracelet was quite thick and gold. It looked expensive.
"You don't understand; the bracelet is to bless you, to bring you luck in exams, and then to come to my firm to make money," Brayden said.
"You're so tacky," Chloe said with a smile.
"Where will you stay when you get back home?" Brayden asked Chloe, looking genuinely concerned for her, "Are you going to live with Donovan?"
"Of course not, I'll stay in a hotel. Jacob might be staying in Amelia's house, and I don't want to go back there either," Chloe didn't want to see Jacob, let alone Karen.
She had a feeling that Karen was somehow involved, but with Amelia gone, no one else would be aware except for Karen.
"Okay, message me when you get back, and also message me as soon as you return," Brayden said.
Chloe nodded.
Before boarding the plane, she sent a message to Sofia.
Chloe: [I'm heading back home for exams, so make sure to take me out for some good food. I'm craving a meal at a Michelin three-star restaurant. I really miss the food from my hometown. Oh, and by the way, keep my return a secret from Donovan.]
Sofia: [You can't hide it from him; in the months you've been away, he's been close to Paisley.]
Chloe wasn't the least bit surprised. She was aware that Paisley harbored ill wishes for her, even when they were once in a romantic relationship. Donovan was currently involved with Paisley, and Chloe found herself feeling content about it.
Chloe: [I never even attended the school he arranged for me, so clearly I can deceive him easily; he doesn't have a clue.]
Sofia: [Anyway, I can tell you're craving something tasty. I'll treat you to something delicious.]
Chloe: [It has to be a high-end restaurant. I want to take advantage of you.]
Sofia: [Sure.]
Sofia noticed Chloe beginning to lighten up and joke around, showing less sadness than before, which brought her comfort.
Chloe found a hotel close to the exam location and spent the day there, reading and working on her accounts.
She only left the hotel in a taxi and headed to "The Azure Plate," an upscale establishment, after Sofia extended an invitation to dinner. Upon arrival, Sofia and Logan were already seated and waiting for her.
"Chloe, you've changed a lot. You look better and more imposing," Sofia said, "How's life abroad?"
"Don't mention it. It's hard. I have to study day and night," Chloe responded.
Sofia ordered a variety of delicious dishes for Chloe, many of which Chloe couldn't identify just by their names.
One dish that stood out was a combination of fried shrimp and cream, which was incredibly tasty and aromatic. Chloe enjoyed several servings of it.
But just as she put down her cutlery to talk to Sofia, she suddenly felt her stomach churn violently, and she felt nauseous.
"What's this dish?" Chloe asked Sofia uncomfortably, her face pale.
"This dish, fried prawns with fried egg yolk, you wouldn't have guessed it was made with egg yolk, right? Sofia suddenly recalled that Chloe was allergic to egg yolk. "Chloe, are you alright? It's all my fault."
"It's not your fault," Chloe reassured before abruptly getting up and heading to the bathroom. Leaning on the sink for support, she began to vomit, feeling as though she was expelling bile.
She was a mess. Chloe vomited and then used a tissue to wipe her mouth. Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared in the mirror, gazing back at Chloe.
"Mrs. Blake!" the other person said joyfully.
Seeing Chloe's changes, he was somewhat surprised.
