Chapter 82: Ignite
After finalizing the purchase of three shirts at the HS Suit Shop one Friday, Chloe reluctantly said goodbye to Sofia and headed home with her new acquisitions.
It had been several days since she last encountered Donovan. As an ordinary low-level employee, getting a glimpse of the CEO was already a challenge.
Donovan sat on the couch, looking at her with interest and a hint of anger.
"You're back?" Donovan asked her. "Where are the shirts you bought?"
Chloe took the shirts out from her canvas bag.
Donovan could tell at first glance that they were custom-made from Dubai, and she didn't even bother changing the packaging, which showed her thoughts towards him...
"You've gained weight," Donovan observed Chloe's round face.
The few pounds she had lost when she was sick had come back.
"What?" Chloe quickly touched her own face, anxiously saying, "Gained weight? How is that possible?"
Donovan sneered, "Why is it impossible? You eat junk food every day."
"What?" Chloe thought to herself: if she had known she would gain weight, she wouldn't have eaten so recklessly. The food outside had a strong taste, which suited her better. Maya's cooking was lighter.
"Finished reading the book too?" Donovan squinted his eyes and asked Chloe.
"What? Book? What book?" Chloe blinked her eyes, thinking that Donovan didn't know about Brayden's book. He wouldn't be trying to deceive her, right?
"The book on cost management in finance."
Then Chloe let out a sigh of relief. It wasn't "Certified Accountants and Life." She said, "That's a textbook, it takes a long time to finish."
Donovan coldly chuckled. Did Chloe think he couldn't see her expression?
"Oh, by the way, why don't you try on the shirts I bought for you?" Chloe said, taking out the three shirts from the exquisite packaging bag.
"How much for each shirt?" Donovan asked.
Chloe raised two fingers.
"20,000 dollars?"
Chloe didn't answer "yes" or "no," she just smiled victoriously.
Donovan knew this brand of shirt. He used to have them custom-made from Dubai for seventy to eighty thousand dollars each. He guessed that Chloe, who seemed to value money so much, wouldn't buy them.
Donovan casually put the shirts aside, feeling extremely disappointed and irritated with Chloe. He went to the bedroom and leaned on the bed to read. After Chloe finished showering, she saw Donovan's icy expression and felt very uneasy.
Sometimes, it was scarier when a person didn't say a cold word than when they got angry.
"What's wrong?" Chloe stood in front of Donovan and rubbed his arm with her hand.
"Don't provoke him!" Donovan's voice was deep, but his impending temper scared Chloe.
Chloe thought to herself, "Indeed, it's June," and quietly tried to turn around to avoid him.
But Donovan grabbed her by the back and pulled her onto the bed.
"I told you not to provoke me!" Donovan had been holding in this anger for a while and had nowhere to vent it.
She had come back, but continuously pushed the boundaries of danger, feigning innocence and naïveté.
She could do something like this and still appear innocent, unreasonably angering Donovan.
Donovan tore Chloe's clothes...
"Get me into the audit department!" Chloe said to Donovan, who was standing ten centimeters away from her.
Chloe used to want to enter the audit department honestly, without using any connections, to avoid being criticized upon entry. But now, it was no longer possible.
Seeing how lively the interviews were for others while she stood sidelined, she felt anxious.
She really wanted to work in auditing, but they wouldn't give her the opportunity. She wouldn't be able to obtain her CPA certification until next year, but by then, there would be more variables and the job requirements might become even higher.
She couldn't worry about that anymore; she wanted to use Donovan's connections, even though it was something she least wanted to do.
Chloe's chest rose and fell, her eyelashes fluttered, and her nostrils trembled slightly due to her heavy breathing. No matter how you looked at it, she was an extremely cute girl.
But why did every request she made always disgust Donovan?
Chloe had a lot of patience; she could easily provoke Donovan's anger each time.
She only set the fire, not responsible for putting it out.
Putting out the fire was Donovan's task.
"Just for this you came back?" Donovan gritted his teeth.
"Of course not..." Chloe wanted to say it was a coincidence, but she didn't finish her sentence before Donovan sealed her lips fiercely.
"No!" Donovan didn't wait for Chloe to finish speaking before giving his answer.
Chloe's fighting spirit was completely extinguished.
