Chapter 272 It Wasn't the First Time She Had Feelings for Him
"It's me," Donovan answered.
"What are you doing here? Weren't you supposed to go back to Hillside Villa?" Chloe asked him.
"The faucet broke, and I don't know the property management's number. I haven't lived in this apartment before," he said.
Chloe nodded slowly, "Oh, are you leaving tonight?"
She had spent quite a bit of time talking with Sofia and then taking her back. It was already past four o'clock.
"Do you want me to leave?" he asked again.
"Your legs are your own; it's not my business. If you don't leave, I'll have Maya cook. If you do..." Chloe seemed to realize the expression on her face and deliberately restrained herself.
"If I leave, then what?"
"Then I won't cook for you," Chloe replied.
"I'm not leaving," he said.
"Then I'll have Maya cook for you." With that, Chloe was about to leave the room to go to the kitchen.
But Donovan stretched out his arm to block her way.
Chloe tilted her head and looked at him in surprise.
"I already told her."
"Oh. Okay." Chloe turned and sat back on the bed.
Donovan went to the bathroom outside to fix the faucet.
Chloe's bedroom door was open.
Chloe heard the sound of metal clinking, the faucet running, and him washing his hands.
Chloe suddenly felt that these sounds, filled with the essence of daily life, were very pleasant.
"Aren’t you eating?" he asked, poking his head out of the bathroom and speaking to Chloe in the bedroom.
He was still wearing that black shirt, looking so dignified and handsome that it was hard to look directly at him.
"I ate too much at lunch; I can't eat anymore," Chloe said to him.
"Even if you can't eat, drink some milk. Come on."
Since Chloe had nothing to do in the bedroom, she went out and sat at the dining table.
"Heat up the milk for her and make some vegetable salad," Donovan instructed Maya.
"Okay."
While Maya was cooking in the kitchen, Chloe sat idly at the dining table.
"What did you have for lunch? Why aren't you hungry?" Donovan asked Chloe casually while eating.
"Oh, Sofia asked me to treat her to lunch at the restaurant you took me to last time," Chloe said.
"What did you talk about?"
"I forgot. We're old classmates, so we just chatted casually. She starts work the day after tomorrow," Chloe said.
Maya brought the heated milk to Chloe.
"The vegetable salad is being made; please wait a moment," Maya said before returning to the kitchen.
Chloe held the milk cup with both hands, took a sip, and ended up with milk on both her upper and lower lips.
"You..." Chloe felt the atmosphere was awkward and wanted to find a topic to talk about, so she asked Donovan if he was also starting work on the 10th.
"Your mouth," Donovan said, looking up at Chloe.
"What?" Chloe, her thoughts interrupted by Donovan, was a bit confused.
"Milk."
"Huh?" Chloe was even more puzzled by Donovan's words.
Seeing Chloe's bewildered expression, Donovan placed a hand on her shoulder, pulled her back, and kissed her.
Chloe's mind went blank at first; then she realized she had milk on her lips.
Maya, holding the vegetable salad, was about to come out but retreated back into the kitchen when she saw the intimate scene.
It was only after the two finally separated that she came out of the kitchen.
Chloe's face was bright red. "Is there any more?"
"No," Donovan continued eating.
Chloe picked up a fork and started eating the vegetable salad, thinking, ‘The sorrow of my mother Amelia's passing was fading, but his warmth was right in front of me.’ Chloe feared that over time, she would be unable to resist and would surrender.'
It wasn't the first time she had feelings for him.
After dinner, Donovan sat on the sofa reading a book, and Chloe went back to her room to rest.
While lying in bed watching a show, she suddenly felt a severe cramp in her calf. This often happened during her pregnancy, and Jane had told her to get more massages.
But at this moment, the cramp was so bad that she couldn't stand it, and her belly was too big for her to reach her calf.
"Maya, Maya," Chloe called out from her room.
She had rarely experienced this before, but since she got pregnant, especially since last Monday, it had been happening frequently.
