Chapter 510 "You're So Rich!"
After Donovan got back to his room, Maya chimed in, "Mr. Blake, Mrs. Blake is sleeping in Francis's room again."
Donovan just shrugged. "Let her be."
Chloe had classes tomorrow and a meeting at Stellar Corp in the afternoon. She needed to hit the sack early and head out early the next day.
The next morning, in the living room.
"I've got a meeting at Stellar Corp this afternoon. You coming?" Chloe asked Donovan, who was lounging on the couch with a book.
"You're heading out?" Donovan looked up, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah. If you're going, I'll ride with you." Chloe figured Donovan probably wouldn't go since he was still in his loungewear.
Donovan pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "I'm not going." He said to Chloe while waiting for the call to connect.
Chloe went back to Francis's room to pack her stuff.
The call connected at the moment.
"Aren't you supposed to go to Pearl Peak City today?" Donovan said, "Timothy wants you to pick out a house."
"I've already decided based on the renderings," Charles replied.
"Alright, come pick up Chloe at my place later. She needs to go back to Pearl Peak City," Donovan said to the other end of the line.
"Donovan, you're being unreasonable..." Donovan hung up before Charles could finish.
His WhatsApp blew up with messages, but he ignored them. He knew exactly who they were from and what they said. It was definitely Charles.
[When did I plan to go to Pearl Peak City? Aren't you the one making all the decisions about Pearl Peak City? We just follow your lead. Am I being used by you again? If you want me to take Chloe to Pearl Peak City, just say so.]
Donovan knew Charles would still show up in the end.
Sure enough, twenty minutes later, Charles rolled up in his low-key yet fancy Volkswagen Phaeton.
Just as Chloe came out with her bag, Charles jingled his car keys, saying, "Mrs. Blake's leaving? I happen to have a meeting at Stellar Corp too. Didn't Timothy arrange a house for us? I need to check it out. Let's go."
"Wait, let me say goodbye to Francis first." Chloe headed to the nursery.
Ten minutes later, she came out, eyes red.
Seeing Chloe looking so sad, Charles felt a pang of sympathy. He shot a disapproving look at Donovan, blaming him for not appreciating Chloe. But Donovan stayed stone-faced, completely unfazed.
Chloe got in the car, not wanting to go back to Pearl Peak City this time; she wanted to stay home and spend more time with Francis.
"How much longer until you become a professor at Pearl Peak University?" Charles tried to cheer Chloe up by avoiding any mention of Francis.
"Depends on the number of published papers. I'm working on a national project, so it should be soon," Chloe said.
"Of course, you're so smart. After all, you were once my student."
Chloe smiled again, not wanting to dwell on those years.
"By the way, what size house are you planning to buy? Why Pearl Peak City?" Chloe asked Charles.
"The houses are built by our New East Group, so you can trust the quality. Plus, Mr. Blake is negotiating with the city government to bring in schools. He's giving us a 20% discount on the house prices. I'm planning to buy three for investment and one for myself." Charles spoke with enthusiasm, like he had finally snagged a great deal.
Chloe stared at Charles in surprise. "You're so rich."
