Chapter 350 Just Like Someone With Looks
Donovan and Chloe arrived at the Crystal Haven Hotel right at noon and headed straight to the "Whispering Willow Retreat" suite.
The room was already buzzing with people. As soon as they saw Donovan, they pulled him over, teasing, "Look who finally decided to show up—our class president and reunion organizer!"
Chloe was taken aback. She had no idea Donovan had been the class president or that he had organized this whole event.
It was clear he had gone to great lengths to help her unwind.
Chloe shot Donovan a look filled with admiration, gratitude, and affection.
Thinking about how much Donovan did for her and coming from a modest background herself, Chloe felt a pang of guilt for not being able to reciprocate in the same way.
'How did I get so lucky to have such a wonderful husband?'
Donovan was quickly the center of attention, and everyone's eyes, significantly the women's, shifted to Chloe.
Feeling a bit uneasy under their gaze, Chloe sensed some unfriendly looks.
"Donovan, you have a son now, and you didn't bring him to show us?" one of the classmates teased.
"What's so special about a kid? Besides, this reunion isn't for him. He's just a child. What would he understand?"
After a moment, everyone turned their attention to Chloe. She felt flattered but accidentally burned her mouth with a hot meatball.
She glanced over at Donovan.
"Oh, I guess Donovan wanted Mrs. Blake to relax. Many women get postpartum depression, but with Donovan treating you so well, you won't have that, right?" someone near Chloe said.
People only saw the glamorous exterior, not the flaws within.
"She must be very lucky to have married Donovan. I hope God blesses me like that someday," some female classmates said enviously.
Chloe smiled awkwardly. "Yes, I'm really lucky. Otherwise, I wouldn't have such a good husband."
She thought, 'People are probably just jealous because they can't have what I have. I'll let them be envious.'
After the meal, some people sat on the sofa reminiscing while others sang. Donovan stood over there, holding a glass of wine, chatting with a few male classmates.
Chloe didn't know anyone, so she leaned on the sofa alone, pretending to sleep to hide her awkwardness.
"Look closely, besides being pretty, she doesn't have anything special," a female voice reached her ears.
Chloe wanted to see who it was but could only keep her eyes tightly shut. "To marry into a wealthy family, a woman must have some tricks. I heard her family is very ordinary, and she only has a bachelor's degree, nothing outstanding."
Chloe thought, 'These people talk badly about others right in front of them, aren't they afraid of being overheard? Or do they want me to hear and feel bad? They humiliate me for being an ordinary woman.'
"I heard she and our class president divorced a long time ago. She probably had the child to avoid the divorce. With a child, they are more tied together. She wants to use the child to secure her position. She's really scheming."
"Of course, she's scheming. Otherwise, how could she attract our class president? Back then, he couldn't even get Cynthia Young, who was a campus beauty. Cynthia later got her PhD, but it didn't matter. Our class president just likes someone with looks. Tsk tsk tsk."
"Why didn't Cynthia come today?"
"Why would Cynthia come? The class president is married. She'd just be humiliating herself."
Chloe heard a few more low chuckles, "Maybe our class president had other reasons for marrying her?"
The voices gradually faded away.
The message they wanted to convey to Chloe had been received.
She thought to herself, 'Donovan had a reason for marrying me initially, because of Kenneth. Later, we fell in love over time. I just didn't expect that my bachelor's degree would become a topic of gossip, and that even my beauty would be seen as a fault because of it.'
