Chapter 436 Only Her Ex-Husband Didn't Know
The whole school knew that Jeffery was courting Chloe, and everyone understood what his actions meant.
The entire gymnasium was in an uproar. Everyone was cheering and whistling for Chloe, showing their support for Jeffery.
Puzzled, Francis asked Donovan, "What's going on, Dad?"
Donovan stared straight ahead without saying a word.
Isabel, beside them, excitedly shouted to Chloe, "Say yes!"
"Say yes to what?" Chloe was a bit confused, as she had been thinking about Barbara.
"Say yes to dating him!" Isabel covered her mouth in excitement, her eyes brimming with tears.
Even without any explicit explanation, Donovan grasped the situation perfectly well.
The person Jeffery liked was Chloe!
What a small world.
A faint, chilling smile crept onto Donovan's lips, as cold as the depths of winter.
He guessed that she might be teaching at Pearl Peak City University. The whole school knew Jeffery liked Chloe. Except for him, her ex-husband!
"Dad, what is Jeffery doing?" Francis asked Donovan.
"Nothing."
Donovan's response sent a chill down Francis's spine, so he stopped asking.
Jeffery stood up from the ground and walked over to Chloe, then greeted Donovan behind them.
Chloe followed Jeffery's gaze and saw Donovan and Francis sitting behind them.
Chloe's mind went blank! 'Francis was here!'
"Mr. Blake, would you care to join me for dinner?" Jeffery whispered to Donovan from the back row,
Chloe's mouth hung open, her mind blank.
She watched as Francis walked towards her step by step, thinking, 'Donovan surely won't agree to dinner. He definitely won't.'
But to her surprise, after scrutinizing Chloe, he said, "Sure."
Chloe's heart sank completely.
"I need to talk to you," Chloe said to Jeffery.
"What? I can't hear you. Let's talk over dinner," Jeffery joked with a smile.
"I'm not going to dinner," Chloe said.
"Come on," Jeffery said, taking Chloe's hand.
At that moment, Jeffery looked like a puppy, a puppy full of hormones.
Chloe tried to pull away, but the dispersing students saw them holding hands and stared at their hands.
Chloe tightly closed her eyes, thinking, 'How did this misunderstanding get so big?'
"Let's go," Jeffery said, pulling Chloe along, and she couldn't break free.
Isabel also urged from the side, "Ms. Baker, you two are going to be together forever!"
Chloe thought, 'Doesn't she realize how inappropriate that is right now?'
Jeffery, holding Chloe's hand, had already reached Donovan.
Chloe wondered, 'How does Jeffery know Donovan? What's their relationship?'
"Mr. Blake," Jeffery greeted.
"She is the person you like?" Donovan smiled slightly, scrutinizing Chloe.
As if they didn't know each other at all!
"Yes," Jeffery seemed a bit embarrassed.
"Not bad," Donovan continued to tease Chloe, his gaze never leaving her face. His eyes exuded an icy coldness. "She's well-maintained," he remarked.
Donovan's words were a jab at Chloe.
He meant that Chloe, at her age, had managed to win Jeffery's heart, and he was also calling Chloe "fake."
Yet Jeffery didn't catch on.
After all, he knew nothing about the past.
"Let's go. Let's have dinner," Jeffery said excitedly.
Oscar had said he was just one step away from success, and today he had indeed succeeded.
