Chapter 514 Stole Her Project

Chloe got home and noticed Jeffery had already taken off. She plopped down on the couch, ready to dive back into her project. But weirdly, the file was MIA. No matter how hard she looked, it was like it had vanished from her computer.

Panic set in, and sweat started to bead on her forehead. She'd poured over six months into this project, and now it was just... gone.

She remembered Jeffery had been over earlier, so she gave him a call. "Hey Jeffery, did you see my project on the computer?"

"What project?" Jeffery sounded confused.

"The national one I applied for."

"I didn't see it, and I didn't touch your computer," Jeffery replied, cool as a cucumber.

"Alright," Chloe sighed and hung up.

Totally baffled, she called Saoirse and Isabel to see if they had backups. Both of them said they only had parts of the project. Chloe rubbed her forehead in frustration and called Jeffery again to ask who else had been at her place that afternoon.

"Ms. Young was there, but she left when she saw you weren't home," Jeffery said.

Jeffery thought to himself, 'By mentioning Cynthia, am I just throwing her under the bus?' He wasn't sure if Cynthia had taken it or not, so he downplayed her visit.

Chloe then called Cynthia.

"Project? I don't know anything about it. I'm not even in your field. Why would I need your project?" Cynthia sounded a bit annoyed. "What do you take me for?"

"I..." Chloe was speechless.

Chloe could only try to recreate the project from memory, but if someone had stolen it, redoing it would be pointless since the copyright would already belong to someone else. Chloe angrily pounded her computer. She didn't know if someone was deliberately messing with her, or if her computer had just malfunctioned.

Cynthia thought for a moment and sent the project from her email to Oscar using a rarely used email account. Oscar was in the finance field.

Cynthia had already hinted to Chloe that she wasn't in finance and had no use for the project, implying that only someone in finance would find it useful. Jeffery was in finance, and he was also Oscar's student. This would make Chloe think that Jeffery had stolen her project and given it to his professor, benefiting himself in the process.

She planned to spread this information everywhere so that the whole school would know. Once enough people knew, Donovan would surely find out. Knowing that Chloe was in such big trouble and that Jeffery was involved, Donovan would definitely come. Cynthia would then show great sympathy for Chloe, hoping Donovan would notice her more.

Cynthia then asked in the student and faculty groups: [Has anyone seen Ms. Baker's project report? It's missing.]

Everyone was very concerned and asked where it was lost. Soon, everyone knew that Chloe's report went missing while Jeffery was at her house, and since Jeffery was a finance student, it seemed quite plausible. This caused quite a stir at Pearl Peak University, with rumors spreading that Jeffery had stolen Chloe's project.

Later, Oscar found the email in his inbox, sent from an unfamiliar email address. The content was a study on trusts, which was Chloe's research area.

Of course, he could use it too, but Oscar was a man of integrity and despised plagiarism. He sent the project back to Chloe: [Chloe, is this your project?]

Chloe was overjoyed and moved to tears upon seeing her recovered project.
