Chapter 341 A Turning Point

Maya rushed over, carrying a big package with everything needed for the mom and baby.

"How's it going, Mr. Blake?" she asked Donovan.

"She gave birth," Donovan said, leaning against the wall.

"Are both babies okay?" Maya asked, looking somewhat relieved.

"One."

"What do you mean, one? Where's the other one?" Maya's voice was filled with anxiety. "What happened to the other baby?"

"Don't ask."

Maya fell silent.

By the time Chloe was moved to a private room, it was already evening. She was exhausted, her eyelids heavy. But she knew Donovan was sitting beside her.

"How are the babies?" she asked weakly.

"He was born prematurely and needs to stay in the incubator for ten days. Maya's watching over him."

"Are they okay?" Chloe asked, "Is the baby girl okay?"

Jane mentioned that the baby girl wasn't doing well and was affected by Barbara's provocation, which made Chloe distraught.

Donovan paused. "She's fine."

Chloe responded with a soft "Hmm."

"Do you want to eat something? I'll have Maya make it for you," Donovan said, holding her hand.

Chloe felt too weak to move, let alone eat. After giving birth, her body just wasn't the same.

"Are you staying here tonight?" she asked.

"Yes."

Chloe noticed Donovan didn't seem happy about being a new dad. "Aren't you happy?"

"I'm not unhappy."

After that, Chloe's eyes grew heavy, and she fell asleep again.

She didn't have any breast milk, maybe because of the premature birth or her physical condition. Without the baby by her side, even if she had milk, it would have dried up. Maya was feeding the baby formula.

Chloe woke up in the middle of the night from pain as the anesthesia wore off. Her stomach hurt a lot. Donovan woke up, startled.

She curled up in his arms, trembling. "Why does it hurt so much? Wasn't it a natural birth?" She remembered the first baby's head was almost out when she got to the hospital.

But now, she felt a scar on her stomach. After that, she couldn't remember anything.

"The second baby was delivered by C-section. That's why it hurts," Donovan said, gently stroking her back. "Hang in there."

Chloe's face turned pale from the pain. She didn't feel the joy of being a new mom. Instead, she felt depressed. The physical pain, combined with Barbara's words, still lingered in her mind.

She clung tightly to Donovan, softly sobbing to ease the pain.

By dawn, Chloe had fallen asleep in Donovan's arms, but it was a light sleep. She often woke up from the pain, unable to sleep soundly. Donovan held her without moving for half the night.

Half-awake, Chloe fully woke up at nine in the morning.

"You haven't slept at all?" she asked Donovan.

"No. I ordered some food for you. It will be here soon."

"Okay," Chloe said.

Chloe didn't ask about what happened between him and Paisley, and Donovan didn't bring it up either. She didn't ask because she was afraid of the answer. Donovan didn't bring it up because he felt it wasn't the right time.

They both seemed to understand that this childbirth was a turning point, separating the past unpleasantness from their future.
