Chapter 121 She Lost Again
Although the finance department pretended to work, they could clearly hear everything that was happening in the office.
When they heard that Chloe had a fake bag, they laughed even harder.
Mr. Blake was here, and she had embarrassed herself in front of him. They wanted to see how Mr. Blake would deal with her.
Chloe sneakily glanced at Donovan and changed her tone from when she was talking to Ellie.
"Don't be angry." Chloe coquettishly said to Donovan.
"Why would I be angry?" But at this moment, Donovan was angry. The finance department was audacious and dared to challenge someone under his protection, which made him feel embarrassed.
"I didn't buy a real bag with the money you gave me. I bought a fake bag and saved the rest of the money for myself. I just thought I didn’t need such an expensive bag. We don't need to show off our wealth by buying expensive things," Chloe explained.
She said that to prevent Donovan from being embarrassed by acknowledging her own mistake, and used the bag to mock Ellie's wealth.
Donovan thought to himself, 'I came down to judge the situation, but now I’ve become a part of her plan.' Although she had tried to prevent Donovan from being embarrassed, he still felt a bit uncomfortable.
"Get off work early and go home!" Donovan said, then left.
In less than fifteen minutes, everyone in the company knew about the incident, thanks to the embellishment and exaggeration of her colleagues.
Those who had spoken ill of Chloe before were now silent.
But they all agreed that Ellie wouldn't last long at New East.
Chloe was thinking, 'Did he really tell me to go home? Should she go back today or not?'
Sofia also asked her in a message: [Chloe, this authentic Chanel bag is so awesome. Why don't you give it to me?]
[Stop kidding, that bag costs thirty to forty thousand. You're committing fraud and could go to jail.]
[Fine.] Sofia quickly replied.
But Chloe knew that she couldn't return the bag to Ellie herself, let alone give it to Jacob. If she handed it over to them, it would be like confessing. She would probably have to rely on one person - Brayden. Brayden was the most suitable person for this.
But the thought of dealing with Brayden gave her a headache.
In the afternoon, Chloe waited by Donovan's car. She lowered her head, looking dejected.
In the past, she had stayed in the dormitory for the sake of her stand-in role, and now she was waiting by the car as though she had been abandoned.
Donovan glanced at her and got in the car.
"What day is it?" Donovan asked.
He had noticed that she looked pale, when he went to the finance department at noon.
"What?" Chloe had just been looking out the window and didn't know what Donovan was saying.
"That thing."
"What thing?" Chloe still didn't understand, and then she suddenly realized, "It's the third day of my period."
"Explain it." He said again.
"What do you want me to explain?" Chloe was still confused.
They had only been separated for two or three days, but so much had happened, as if a century had passed.
"The tie incident."
"I went to return the clothes and buy a tie. I happened to see him buying a tie too," Chloe explained it like she was reciting a textbook.
"Him?" Donovan frowned slightly, "Who?"
But Donovan knew exactly who Chloe was talking about. He just felt that Chloe's use of "him" was very subtle. It was as if this person had always been in her heart and she was very familiar with him. She was just saying it out loud now.
"It was Brayden." Chloe blushed. She hadn’t wanted to mention that person's name.
She had just thought about making him return the bag to Ellie in the afternoon.
"And then?" Donovan asked.
"Then they had a discussion and my brother called him away. I was worried that you might get the wrong idea again, so I went to another store to buy it, but unexpectedly..." Chloe's voice lowered. "You did get the wrong idea. You even threw the tie at me!”
"So, it was a waste of your goodwill, right?" Donovan asked her.
"Of course." Chloe looked out the window.
"Now that it's wasted, buy me another one, or maybe a few more," Donovan said.
Chloe protested and turned her head to look at him, and then said, "I was joking when I said you wasted my sincerity and feelings, that I didn't cherish it."
"But I took it seriously," Donovan said.
Chloe had to swallow her grievances silently since they had decided to reconcile. Shouldn't she give him a reconciliation gift? The tie symbolized her loyalty.
"Better sooner than later, let's do it today." Donovan glanced at Chloe. "And you should change your clothes."
"I've bought clothes before, but I never wear them," Chloe muttered.
Donovan shook his head, "You just don’t have any taste. We can’t do anything about that."
Chloe wanted to argue, but couldn't say anything.
"And explain what happened today," Donovan said again.
Chloe faithfully explained the situation. Jacob had given her the bag and she had gone to Sofia to exchange it.
"So, what were you doing during work hours? Buying bags? Is your salary too high?" Donovan said.
"I... " Chloe felt wronged, thinking, 'Didn't you ask me to explain? But now you're saying I'm not working properly.'
Chloe had a valid point, but when she encountered Donovan, he made her retreat.
Donovan's car was heading toward the New East Mall.
It seemed like it was the first time he was going shopping with Chloe.
The New East Mall was much more expensive compared to the emerging mall.
