Chapter 499 You Can't Touch Me

During dinner, Chloe's arm kept brushing against Donovan's. He glanced at her but didn't seem to care. Sometimes he'd look over at her, and she'd either look back or just ignore him, like she was saying, "This is just how I am, deal with it." But Donovan didn't mind.

When it was time to pay, the bill was only $250, and Chloe had a $50 coupon, so they ended up spending just over $200.

"Hold on, let me find that coupon," Chloe said, rummaging through her bag.

"Chloe, you're so cheap. We're good friends, you know," Sofia said, clearly not impressed with the barbecue meal Chloe had treated them to.

"You're not just here for a day. I'm covering your stay and meals while you're here. This is just the start; there's a big meal tomorrow. Also, I only have one bed, and it can't fit two people. I'll book a room for you at the school hotel, okay?" Chloe said, mostly for Donovan's benefit, and he got the hint.

It seemed like after a few years, she wasn't too keen on sharing a bed with him.

Donovan chuckled. "I remember we used to share a small bed, and it was never a problem."

Chloe thought for a moment and then remembered her bed was indeed small.

"Don't read too much into it. I wasn't saying it for you to hear," Chloe said.

"But I heard it."

Caught by Donovan, Chloe had no choice but to pretend to seriously look for the coupon.

Suddenly, a business card fell out of her bag. Donovan glanced at it and saw the name: [Pearl Peak Hotel.]

This was the only six-star hotel in Pearl Peak City.

Given Chloe's stingy attitude, he knew she'd never stay at such a fancy place. Plus, she was at school, so she didn't need a hotel. The only explanation was that someone else was in town and staying there. Probably that Derek guy, Donovan deducted. 'She says we can't share a bed, but last night she was in someone else's. I need to meet this Derek and see what he's about.'

After dinner, Chloe said she would take Sofia and Loren out to see the night view of Pearl Peak City, which was beautiful. Sofia was all for it.

Donovan took Sofia and Loren to the hotel to rest, then took Chloe home. He didn't leave right away.

Seeing Chloe yawning, Donovan asked, "Didn't sleep well last night? What were you up to?"

"I was writing a paper," Chloe lied casually. She was really tired and wanted Donovan to leave quickly.

"What paper?" Donovan lit a cigarette and started smoking in the room.

Chloe waved away the smoke and said, "Smoke outside. I'm going to sleep. Don't touch me, okay?"

"I won't touch you, go to sleep." Donovan sat on the sofa outside, slowly smoking.

Chloe was really tired and fell asleep quickly.

She lay on her side in bed. Maybe because she had just seen Derek, she kept dreaming about the past. In school, she often made subtle mistakes because of her accent. Her grades couldn't keep up, so she'd go to Derek, who would patiently explain the differences in accents to her. His accent was incredibly pleasant to listen to.
