Chapter 124 Chloe, Don't Stir Up Trouble

Chloe thought for a moment and decided to accept the box of chocolates.

"I'd like to order this. Would you like to see if there's anything else you want?" Chloe had marked what she wanted to order on the menu.

"No need, just place the order," Brayden replied.

Chloe hesitated for a moment and then told Brayden everything in detail. She was afraid that Ellie would sue her, so she asked Brayden to return the bag to Ellie so he could handle the matter discreetly. If she had given it to Jacob or Ellie herself, she was afraid she would fall into a trap.

"Jacob already mentioned this to me. He knew he couldn't get it from you, so he asked me to do it for him. Also, Ellie asked me if I knew any lawyers and wanted me to introduce someone to her," Brayden said.

Chloe became nervous as soon as she heard that. "For filing a lawsuit, right?"

She had guessed it correctly. Ellie was getting desperate.

Brayden smiled. "Yes, but I told her to calm down. It's not that serious. Worst case, I'll give her one as a gift."

Chloe let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Mr. Perez. My brother gave me the bag, and I thought that if I didn't accept it, he would find another way to get at me, so I took it."

"Why does your brother always treat you like this?" Brayden asked Chloe, still vividly remembering the incident when Jacob had drugged her.

A look of sadness crossed Chloe's face. "I don't know. He’s never liked me since we were kids. Maybe he resented how my parents treated me. I was the youngest in the family, and my parents were almost forty when they had me. My brother was always mischievous and would often bring a group of kids around to bully me when I was young."

Brayden furrowed his brows tightly. "Jacob has gone too far. I'll talk to him later."

"Please don't. He’ll definitely know it was me who filed the complaint with you," Chloe said with some frustration, pushing the bag toward Brayden. "This is Ellie's bag. Please return it to her."

"Alright, I'll figure out a good excuse for you," Brayden replied.

Chloe smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Perez."

"Don't call me Mr. Perez anymore. I'm no longer your teacher."

"Brayden?" Chloe called out.

Chloe was very grateful to Brayden. No one else could have resolved this matter besides him. Jacob had approached Brayden, and so had Ellie, but in the end, Brayden had helped Chloe.

Brayden took Chloe's bag, and Chloe took the chocolates that Brayden had given her. Then, she took the bus back to Hillside Villa.

When she arrived home, Donovan was sitting on the couch reading a book.

"What do you have there?" Donovan casually asked about the source of the chocolates.

"It's some chocolate. I went back to my dorm. Someone gave it to Sofia, and she gave it to me," Chloe replied, avoiding mentioning Brayden's name to prevent any unnecessary complications with Donovan, who would get angry and send her back to her dorm. So, she decided to avoid telling the truth.

Chloe put the chocolates in the fridge and went upstairs to change her clothes.

As she passed the bedroom trash can, she noticed it was filled with shredded paper.

She didn't pay much attention to it at first, but she seemed to see the letter "Baker."

Chloe hadn't finished changing yet, so she squatted down to look. It turned out to be "The Accountant and Life" that Brayden had given her. Donovan had definitely torn it apart.

Chloe opened her suitcase, but the book was nowhere to be found.

If only she hadn't told Donovan where she had put the book!

As Chloe's chest heaved speechlessly, Donovan came upstairs.

"What's wrong? Are you angry?" Donovan looked at her, noticing that Chloe's shirt buttons were not done up, and she was holding a crumpled piece of paper.

Donovan's anger was well hidden in his eyes, but he had a mocking expression on his face.

"Why did you tear up my book?" Chloe asked. "Don't you understand the meaning of respect?"

Chloe had never been so furious since moving into Hillside Villa.

"So, Chloe, who was the chocolate box from?" Donovan remembered that he had once given Chloe a box of chocolates, but she hadn't seemed as delighted as she was now.

Donovan was extremely angry today.

Chloe was out of breath. "I'm talking about the book!"

"Isn't it the same thing?" Donovan raised his voice.

Chloe furrowed her brows slightly, wondering how he knew it was from Brayden. Had he tracked her somehow?

"Why are you tracking me?" Chloe asked him angrily.

"Tracking? You're being delusional. I've told you not to provoke me, Chloe," Donovan replied.

"Donovan, you jerk, tyrant, stalker, selfish, possessive..." Chloe felt exposed. She was already prone to crying, and now she stood in the middle of the bedroom, barefoot, tears falling like heavy rain, crying like a child.

"You brought this on yourself, Chloe," Donovan said as he unfastened his belt.

He pushed Chloe onto the bed and took off Chloe's ill-fitting shirt.

Chloe had nowhere to release her frustration. Anger made her lose her sanity and she raised her hand, slapping Donovan.

The slap was loud and clear.

There was a moment of brief and terrible calm in the bedroom.

Stunned by Chloe's slap, Donovan became disoriented. His actions became rougher, and he reached under Chloe's clothes.

Donovan grew angrier the more he thought about it. He had just transferred her from the finance department to the auditing department and given her a raise, but she was having an affair with Brayden. That man had once embarrassed him in front of her, and Chloe seemed to sympathize with him.

They had both studied accounting, had a common language, and a mentor-student relationship. Chloe had even wanted to work at his firm.

Donovan kissed Chloe's face passionately.

After they finished, Chloe fell into a deep sleep.

Donovan got dressed and went downstairs.
