Chapter 43 Request Leave of Absence
After the matter was handled, the three of them came back.
She was now afraid of interacting with Donovan, not knowing how many of her secrets he could unravel with just a few words.
When Donovan came home, Maya told him about the WhatsApp message from Chloe.
Donovan checked the time of the WhatsApp message and said coldly, "Quick thinking, no wonder you were so forthcoming."
Less than a week later, Donovan's secretary personally delivered a donation certificate to Chloe:

The two hundred computers you donated to Elmrest Springs Elementary have been distributed to the students.

Chloe looked at the certificate with mixed emotions. She had originally wanted her name to be listed alongside Andrew Price's, but now, it was replaced with Donovan's.
The fact that Donovan's secretary had personally delivered the certificate was curiosity-inducing enough, but now, as everyone crowded around to take a look, their reactions were stunned when they saw it.
It appeared that whatever was going on between Mr. Blake and Chloe was far from over. In fact, it seemed to be intensifying.
Everyone, especially James Turner, felt a chill run down their spine, realizing that their previous attitude towards Chloe had been somewhat harsh and that perhaps it was time to make reparations.
The next day, James Turner sent Chloe the news that she had been named the new "Rising Star" of the office.
Chloe knew this was all a ploy by James to curry favor with Donovan, and she felt listless, unable to muster much enthusiasm.
James, ever the sycophant, also sent the news to Donovan. Donovan didn't reply.
That same day, while at the office, Chloe received a phone call from Donovan.
"Hello, Mr. Blake." Since everyone in the office already knew, Chloe didn't beat around the bush and addressed him directly.
As expected, this caused all ears in the office to perk up.
"Samuel collapsed, I'm at an out-of-town meeting, can you check on him at home?" Despite the urgency, Donovan's voice was still remarkably composed.
"What?" Chloe, genuinely fond of Samuel, responded, "I'll take leave right away."
After finishing the call with Donovan, Chloe went to James Turner's office to ask for leave, which James granted without hesitation. He even told her to be safe and not to hurry back until everything was taken care of.
When Chloe arrived at the hillside villa, she saw Paisley tending to Samuel by his bedside. Paisley was indeed a frequent visitor to the house.
If it weren't for her deep affection for Samuel, Chloe wouldn't have wanted to go in.
She approached Paisley. Paisley was dabbing Samuel's lips with a wet towel to prevent them from drying out.
"Why are you only getting here now?" Paisley said with a hint of reproach, "Luckily, the house is equipped with medical facilities. The doctor said Samuel was hypoglycemia, and they've already given him a glucose injection."
"This isn't a movie set. Your technique is unprofessional. Let me do it," Chloe said calmly.
She could instantly tell Paisley's actions were more for show than care. Theatrics might work on camera, but actual caregiving requires a different approach.
"Oh? Is that so? I haven't really taken care of sick people much, I lack experience, you better do it," Paisley said with a sardonic smile, stepping aside to make room for Chloe.
Chloe carefully moistened Samuel's lips, a task she was familiar with, having cared for her father for a few days and her mother for six years. Chloe was young, but she was already an experienced caretaker.
Chloe could tell that Paisley, despite her flawlessly articulated words, laced her speech with a mocking tone. It was a thinly veiled irony that didn't escape Chloe's attentive ear.
After witnessing Chloe's adept caregiving skills, Paisley felt somewhat embarrassed about her own less polished attempts. "It's clear now that Donovan didn't marry the wrong person. Had he married me, I couldn't have done all this," Paisley said with a chuckle. "If grandpa ever got really sick, I'd be useless, but you, you're practically a nurse."
The implication in Paisley's words was crystal clear. In wedding Chloe, Donovan had also gained a caretaker for Samuel Furthermore, Paisley's tone suggested that it wasn't a matter of Donovan not wanting to marry her, but rather her own unwillingness to marry him.
Whether by design or coincidence, while speaking, Paisley casually flipped her hair back with her right hand. The action revealed a shiny silver bracelet on her wrist, and Chloe could plainly see the engraved words: Paisley Blake.
The reason Paisley flaunted the bracelet before Chloe was obvious. Considering Paisley's earlier remarks, Chloe surmised that perhaps Donovan had disclosed the details of their marriage arrangement to Paisley, hinting that he might marry Paisley after a swift divorce, urging her to be patient.
