Jake, who was playing by the water, walked over and handed Carol a piece of candy, saying, "Ma'am, please have some candy."
Carol was taken aback for a moment and looked down at Jake. He was looking up at her eagerly with a hopeful expression.
She examined Jake's face again. He wasn't particularly good-looking, but his demeanor was pleasant. However, he didn't look like a child from a wealthy family. The two children stayed in a room with Chloe and Donovan.
That night, after Chloe finished her bath, she saw Jake playing with toys while Donovan was bathing with Francis.
Chloe called Jake over and asked him why he gave Carol candy today.
She had seen Jake give the candy to Carol and was very angry, thinking Jake had no backbone, especially since Carol had spoken to her so rudely.
"I saw that lady speaking to you in that tone, so I thought if I gave her candy, she might treat you better," Jake said.

She hugged Jake, "Have you learned to protect Mommy?"
"Mommy is good to Jake, so Jake should be good to Mommy," Jake said.
"Good boy," Chloe said, feeling touched. She had always treated Amelia this way.
Francis was in the bathroom talking to Donovan about the day's events.
Francis was also angry because Jake gave Carol candy, so he told Donovan about it.
Today, when Francis saw Carol's attitude, he intended to throw the stone in his hand, but before he could, Jake had already taken the initiative.
Because Francis loved his mother very much, his stance naturally shifted to Chloe's side.
"Don't try to guess others' intentions," Donovan sensed that Jake might not have meant it that way, but he didn't care much.

At that time, Chloe and Donovan were sitting on the sofa downstairs.
After the servant opened the door for Derek, he entered and first called out, "Chloe," then his gaze fell on Donovan, and he called out, "Donovan."
Donovan responded, looking quite impressive.
