Chapter 40 Human Nature

Chloe was thrilled about finalizing the plan.
However, she was nervous. It was her first time handling a transaction that exceeded ten thousand dollars. Fearing she might encounter a scammer or a criminal, she asked Sofia to accompany her. Sofia readily agreed to Chloe's request.

"Actually, it'd be best to bring a guy along for this kind of thing. You should ask Mr. Blake to go with you—who would dare to cheat him? They wouldn't have the guts," Sofia suggested while snacking and chatting with Chloe.

"Easier said than done. We aren't on good terms right now. Besides, this has something to do with my ex-boyfriend. Why would I be crazy enough to ask him to join me?" Chloe replied.

"Why are you creating tension for no reason? You see, with just one casual 'like' from him, our situations would be completely different. Others can't wait to suck up to him, and here you are, getting all worked up," Sofia said, exasperated at Chloe's attitude.

"Let's not talk about it. I've been holding him in high regard all this time," Chloe said, still clueless as to why Donovan suddenly asked her to move out.
Without knowing his reasons, how could she cater to his preferences?

"Just sweet-talk him a little. Mr. Blake falls for that kind of stuff," Sofia suggested.

"How would you know? Have you ever tried to sweet-talk him before?" Chloe asked, her tone tinged with jealousy.

"Are you kidding me? I wouldn't even dare to meet Mr. Blake face-to-face," Sofia said, playfully groveling before Chloe. "But seriously, my sister is supposed to bring me some food this afternoon."

"Isn't she almost due? How can you let her come all the way here while she's pregnant?" Chloe asked, feeling uneasy about the idea.

"She's not coming herself. She's sending her brother-in-law. I heard he's quite the catch," Sofia said, visibly excited.

"You've never met him?" Chloe asked.

Sofia rolled her eyes at Chloe, commenting, "No. He didn't attend my sister's wedding. I think he was out of town or something."

"I'll scope him out for you this afternoon," Chloe suggested with a smile.

At six o'clock, the dormitory doorbell rang, and Chloe went to answer it. As soon as she opened the door, her eyes widened in surprise, "Logan Parker?"

"Chloe?" he echoed.

"Are you looking for me?" Chloe inquired.

Logan lifted the containers in his hand, "I'm delivering some food for Sofia. I didn't expect you two to be roommates. It's a small world."

When Sofia came out and saw the handsome Logan, her eyes lit up.

"How about I treat you two ladies to dinner tonight?" Logan offered.
"What am I going to do with the meal my sister sent over?" Chloe asked, frowning slightly.

Sofia's interest was already piqued. After all, who wouldn't want to have a meal with a good-looking guy?

"We can just store it in the fridge and eat it slowly. it won't spoil. Let's go, I'll treat you to Mexican food," Logan said enthusiastically.

Chloe and Sofia had been facing some challenges at work recently, and a nice meal out was the perfect way to de-stress. They agreed immediately.

Plus, Chloe loved spicy food – the spicier, the better.

During the meal, Logan asked Chloe, "We haven't chatted since we added each other on WhatsApp. I didn't realize you worked at New East Group. That's impressive."

"I'm just a junior employee. there's no future in that. Sofia has more prospects. she's the rising star in our company, a future executive," Chloe said, not missing a chance to sing Sofia's praises. Chloe noticed that Sofia seemed to have a crush on Logan.

Sofia and Logan also connected via WhatsApp.

"Oh, by the way," Sofia invited Logan, "Chloe's planning to visit a computer factory in the suburbs this Sunday. We've never been and are worried about getting duped. We could really use a guy's company. My sister told me you run a gaming company, and you'd be the perfect person to help us evaluate the computers."

"A computer factory visit? No problem. I'll drive you two lovely ladies. Planning to buy computers? Why not just get them from the computer market? Why go directly to the source?"

"Two hundred units. We're donating them to poor children. It's the same school we visited together," Chloe explained easily, having visited the charity school with Logan.

"Two hundred, wow, that's quite generous."

"It's nothing. I sold my dad's old house back in the countryside." Chloe tried to deflect, wary that Logan might pry into the origin of the money and land her in an awkward position.

She hadn't mentioned her agreed marriage with Donovan to Sofia, and even Sofia didn't know the source of the funds.

Her father's old house was in the countryside, a place Chloe had never visited. Thankfully, Logan didn't inquire further.
