Chapter 425 Getting-to-know-you Phase
Donovan handed the contract to Charles. "Take this to legal for revisions. Next time, you sign it. We're out of here."
As he was about to leave, Donovan turned to Chloe. "Ms. Baker, are you coming?"
Chloe, caught off guard, replied, "Oh, no. Thanks, Mr. Blake."
After Donovan left, Chloe realized she was nervous and sweating.
"Are you feeling okay, Ms. Baker?" Timothy asked.
"Oh, I'm fine," Chloe said, distracted.
"Next time, make sure to come along for the contract signing. You need to keep an eye out for any potential traps they might sneak into the contract," Timothy suggested.
Chloe chuckled, brushing off Timothy's concern as a bit over the top. "I don't think that'll be necessary."
"True. New East Group is too reputable for that. So, you'll be here?" Timothy asked again.
"Yes, I'll come," Chloe said, remembering Donovan wouldn't be there next time.
In Donovan's car, he stared out the window.
"Don't worry about it. She's a Stellar Corp employee, and she's always been responsible," Charles reassured Donovan.
"What did you say?" Donovan asked, not following.
"I'm talking about Chloe! Got it?" Charles raised his voice.
"Who said I was thinking about her?" Donovan replied, lighting a cigarette.
The moment Donovan left, Francis woke up. His eyes lit up when he saw Jeffery.
"Jeffery, you're here? Dad said you'd take care of me this afternoon," Francis said happily.
"Yep, come here. I'll teach you how to draw," Jeffery said, lifting Francis.
Francis laughed. "Maya said you can draw. Teach me, please."
"Sure."
Jeffery picked up a brush, ready to start with a drawing of hair. However, as he sketched the first few strokes, he suddenly realized that if he drew Chloe, and Donovan saw it, Maya would likely find out too. He didn't want her to know just yet—after all, the sooner she found out, the sooner she'd oppose it. Chloe was his teacher and five years older than him!
He crumpled the drawing and tossed it.
"Francis, let me draw something else for you."
"Okay."
"Sit still, but you can take breaks if you need to."
"Okay, I'll just play with my toys."
"Alright, I'm starting now."
As Jeffery worked on the drawing, Francis made two trips to the bathroom and got a drink twice. Other than that, he was completely absorbed in his toys. Jeffery was impressed by his focus and how well he behaved.
Just as Jeffery finished the drawing, Donovan and Charles returned.
"Did you draw this?" Donovan asked.
"Yes, Mr. Blake. Francis was very focused and well-behaved," Jeffery said while packing up.
Donovan, feeling proud, replied indifferently, "Really?"
"Yes, indeed. Mr. Blake, I'm heading out now. Are you leaving tomorrow? I've got a new student orientation in the afternoon. If I finish early, I'll drop by to see you and bring a small gift for Francis."
"No need. You've got your own schedule to manage," Donovan said.
Jeffery smiled, having made up his mind that this was something he needed to do.
"Stay for dinner. I'll start cooking," Charles said, putting on an apron.
"Don't keep him. He's in the 'getting-to-know-you' phase, eager to see someone he likes," Donovan joked, settling onto the couch and teasing Jeffery.
Jeffery smiled and lowered his head. "Mr. Blake, you know exactly what I'm thinking."
