Chapter 471 Is This Your Son?
Chloe's only good vibe about the Daniel's family was Daniel himself.
Daniel was looking pretty skinny now and had a bit of a limp.
"Do you really live here? Barbara and her mom are shooting at Pearl Peak City University, so I swung by. They said you were teaching here, so I asked around and found your place," Daniel said.
Chloe let him in.
"Who's the little dude?" Daniel didn't recognize Francis.
"Oh, just a colleague's kid," Chloe shrugged it off.
Daniel scoped out her place while Chloe went to get him some water. "Chloe, why'd you vanish for years without a peep? Did you and Donovan have a blowout?" Daniel asked.
The mention of "Donovan" made Francis, who was reading, freeze up. He was all ears but pretended to keep flipping pages.
Chloe's hand paused while pouring water. "Nah, I was just super busy abroad, barely had time to sleep."
"So much has changed these years. Your mom passed away, and who would've thought Barbara would become a star? I visited your mom's grave a few days ago, did you know? As I get older, I get all nostalgic. I went back to Sunshine Bay City to tidy up the house and found some old photos of me and your mom." Daniel wiped his tears and pulled out the photos from his bag.
"Yeah, I know. I saw the flowers on my mom's grave," Chloe said, taking the photos from Daniel. Seeing pictures of Daniel and Amelia as kids, and later family photos, Chloe felt tears welling up.
"Amelia was pushed down the stairs. Just thinking about it makes me sad and pissed. If it weren't for Donovan..." Daniel said, touching his head and choking up. "It's good you divorced him. He's so cold-blooded."
"You can't talk about my dad like that!" Francis stood up angrily and snapped at Daniel, "You're lying!"
Daniel was startled, thinking, 'Donovan's son? That means he's Chloe's son?'
"Is this your kid?" Daniel asked.
Chloe frowned slightly. It seemed this secret wouldn't stay hidden today.
Francis looked at Chloe in shock. "Chloe, are you... are you my mom?"
Daniel was stunned. He asked Chloe, "He doesn't know yet?"
Just as Chloe didn't know how to respond, there was a knock on the door. It was Jeffery, holding a bag. Chloe guessed it might be eggs and tart shells.
"Why are you here? Where's Isabel?" Chloe asked, peeking out the door.
"Oh, she bought some stuff and someone invited her to a concert. She asked me to bring these to you," Jeffery said.
Just then, Chloe's phone rang again. It was Isabel.
"Hey, Ms. Baker, did Jeffery bring it to you? A classmate invited me to a concert, and I didn't have time to go back before the concert starts. I ran into Jeffery halfway, and he should have brought it to you," Isabel said hurriedly.
"Oh, he did," Chloe replied, feeling that Isabel was always doing such things and wasn't very reliable. She reminded her, "The day after tomorrow at nine, don't forget! Don't make me come drag you out of bed!"
"Got it, I won't forget, Ms. Baker," Isabel said before hanging up.
Seeing Daniel, Jeffery asked, "Who's this?"
"Oh, this is my uncle, Daniel. Daniel, this is my student, Jeffery," Chloe said.
