Chapter 689 Who Are You Trying to Bewitch?
"If I had known you were like this, I would have bought you some staple food. Unfortunately, I only got you some yogurt and fruit," Barbara said apologetically, looking very considerate.
Jeffery ate the instant food and only said politely, "Thanks."
"How did you end up like this? Why didn't you stay in the military?" Barbara asked Jeffery again.
Jeffery didn't respond. Firstly, he didn't want to talk too much with Barbara, and secondly, the reputation of "stealing papers" and "stealing money" was not pleasant. As a young man, he still cared about his dignity.
Seeing that Jeffery didn't answer, Barbara stood up and started cleaning Jeffery's place.
Before long, Jeffery's rented small apartment was clean. However, there was still a pile of dirty clothes on Jeffery's bed and floor. Barbara was planning to do Jeffery's laundry next, so she wouldn't have to leave so soon.
"Haven't you found a job?" Barbara asked Jeffery.
"I'm looking," Jeffery replied mechanically.
Barbara thought, Jeffery had probably left the military. She knew about the paper incident back then, and he probably couldn't go back to school either. He had no other options. She wanted to take advantage of Jeffery's downfall to win him over.
After all, he was too striking. When Barbara entered earlier, she saw his abs and his tanned skin. Who wouldn't be mesmerized by that? Barbara's heart fluttered, and she felt a rush of heat. Seeing Jeffery, her mind was filled with desire.
"Does your mom know about your situation?" Barbara asked him again.
"Not yet."
Barbara noticed it was already 5 PM and didn't want to leave that night. So, she stood up again to do Jeffery's laundry. Jeffery was so downcast that he didn't even notice what Barbara was doing. He just lay on the couch smoking, like a soulless person.
Barbara gathered Jeffery's clothes, put them in the washing machine, and hand-washed his underwear.
When she hung the clothes on the balcony, Jeffery realized that Barbara had seen his private items. He regretted not telling Barbara anything, but he wasn't in the mood to care.
When Barbara came out of the bathroom, her hands were very soft. She said, "The transportation here isn't very convenient. When I came earlier, I noticed it's hard to get a cab and there are no buses. Can I stay here tonight?"
Jeffery pointed to another room, "You can sleep there."
After all, no one knew about his place, and Barbara was a woman, so she couldn't do anything to him. Barbara had been busy for him all day, so he couldn't refuse her.
That night, they each went to their rooms to sleep.
Because of her previous acting schedule, Barbara was used to staying up late. She was still awake in the middle of the night, lying in bed, scrolling through her phone. Thinking that Jeffery was just next door, she felt a rush of excitement. Several times, she almost mustered the courage to go to Jeffery's room. But then she thought, she came this time to change Jeffery's impression of her. If she forced herself on him, his impression of her would only get worse, and it wouldn't be worth it.
Thinking of this, Barbara suppressed her inner impulse.
Jeffery had been living a reversed day-night schedule these days, thinking about his unlucky life, and couldn't sleep either. He thought about Chloe, about how she looked when he first met her. She was wearing a dress, charming and alluring, both pure and seductive. Even though he stopped pursuing Chloe because of Donovan, he still missed her in his heart.
