Chapter 463 It Has Nothing to Do with Her
Why could Janet, a mere nurse, get pregnant with Donovan's child?
Janet didn't confront Paisley for the moment. She was a nurse and had a first aid kit at home, filled with scissors, gauze, antiseptic, and all sorts of emergency supplies.
Just as Janet walked towards the first aid kit, Paisley quickly lunged at her.
"Don't bandage him!" Paisley screamed.
"Get out of the way!" Janet was getting anxious at Paisley's erratic behavior.
Janet had a gentle demeanor, but beneath that lay a strong and resilient personality. Once provoked, she was capable of doing anything.
Paisley was furious for being shouted at. She clung tightly to the gauze, not letting Janet get it.
Jake saw them arguing and cried even louder.
"Jake, don't cry. Mommy's here," Janet turned and said to Jake.
"You bitch, you must have used some disgusting trick to lure Donovan into bed. I'm going to kill you," Paisley said jealously.
These past few years, she had been unlucky. Her career in the entertainment industry had stalled, and she had always harbored the hope that once Donovan and Chloe divorced, she could take Chloe's place. But to her dismay, Janet had beaten her to it and even managed to get pregnant with Donovan's child. The thought of it filled Paisley with a mix of frustration at her own inadequacy and a seething resentment towards Janet.
The more she dwelled on it, the angrier she became. In a fit of rage, she grabbed a pair of scissors from a first aid kit and lunged at Janet.
The blade pierced Janet's palm, drawing blood. Fueled by desperation and fear, Janet, bloodied and driven by a surge of adrenaline, managed to wrest the scissors from Paisley's grip. Without hesitation, she ruthlessly plunged them into Paisley's chest.
As Paisley collapsed into a pool of her own blood, the gravity of what she had done began to sink in, and Janet was overcome with terror.
The blood seeped downstairs, alarming the neighbors, who quickly rushed up to check on the commotion.
Janet collapsed on the ground, muttering, "I killed Paisley."
Beside her was Jake, also covered in blood, crying loudly.
Paisley was in a coma, but still had a heartbeat. By the time Donovan received the call, she was still being resuscitated.
And Janet was arrested, leaving Jake with no one to care for.
There were rumors that Jake was Donovan's child, so the police asked Donovan to return to Maple Valley.
And all of this happened just because Donovan had Paisley deliver that package of clothes and supplements.
As Donovan drove back to Maple Valley, with Francis asleep in the back seat, his mind was very calm.
Whether Janet killed Paisley or Paisley killed Janet, he could accept either outcome.
Paisley had previously pretended to be his savior, deceiving him for so many years. She had even attempted to kill Kenneth, and Donovan had wanted to end her life then. Later, when Lori falsely claimed that Paisley was pregnant, it led to Chloe's premature labor. Although there was no concrete evidence to pin these crimes on her, Paisley undoubtedly deserved her fate.
Janet, on the other hand, had just committed a murder that would likely see her spend the rest of her life in prison.
But from Donovan's perspective, this turn of events was almost advantageous—two of his enemies were taken out in one fell swoop.
And as for himself, he was very clear that nothing would happen to him!
This was just another case of women driven by jealousy, leading to a crime of passion—nothing that could be traced back to him.
Still, a small part of him recognized that Janet was somewhat wronged in the grand scheme of things.
"Mr. Blake, what should I do? Paisley is in a coma in the hospital. How much will this cost?" Lori cried out in the hillside villa, "Paisley's life is so hard."
"Doesn't your family own multiple properties?" Donovan sat on the sofa, one leg crossed over the other, and said calmly.
Lori had a short memory. She had forgotten how she had deceived Donovan back then, claiming that Paisley was pregnant with Donovan's child. Now, she was shamelessly begging Donovan again.
Lori was stunned for a moment before saying, "But I'm afraid selling the houses won't be enough."
"Then there's nothing I can do. Sell the houses first, and if it's not enough, come back to me. Even though she wronged me back then, you can't find anyone else to help, can you?" Donovan said.
Lori fell silent.
Paisley had wronged him. For Lori, Paisley's severe injury was already a huge blow. Now, selling houses to save Paisley would ruin her wealthy image.
Had Donovan still been in the dark about the truth behind the cornea, he might have considered helping. But with everything out in the open, there was no longer any reason for him to extend a hand.
Realizing this, Lori quietly left, knowing Donovan would not help, no matter what.
