Chapter 442 He Has Connections
During that week, Chloe remained mostly indoors, dedicating her time to writing her thesis and focusing on her project. Even when she went to the cafeteria, she only went to the faculty cafeteria and not the student one, so she hadn't seen Jeffery for a few days.
As for Barbara, she went to other places in Pearl Peak City to reshoot a few scenes this week. She returned to Pearl Peak City University on Wednesday.
Due to Chloe having a class scheduled for Wednesday, there was a desire to check on how she and Jeffery were faring.
She knew that if she went to watch Chloe teach, it would make Chloe uncomfortable, but she just didn't want Chloe to have it easy.
On her way from her home in Willow Grove Estates to the classroom, Chloe suddenly ran into a familiar woman, Janet.
Janet was with a small child.
Janet probably saw Chloe too. She seemed both surprised and guilty.
Chloe looked at the little boy, who was about a year old and had just learned to walk. He was running on the ground, but as soon as Janet saw Chloe, she immediately picked up the child and covered his face, not letting Chloe see him.
At this moment, it was hard for Chloe not to overthink.
She had always been suspicious about Janet being pregnant. She guessed that Janet and Kathy were both Pamela's people, intentionally orchestrating a conspiracy to manipulate Chloe into going abroad.
Now, seeing Janet with a one-year-old child with Janet's evasive behavior, Chloe became even more convinced.
Chloe didn't say anything and wanted to walk past.
Although she didn't want to have any ties with Donovan anymore, thinking about this matter inevitably made her feel disgusted.
Janet stepped forward and said apologetically, "Mrs. Blake, I didn't come here to make you uncomfortable. I have a classmate who works in logistics, and I'm off work these days, so I came to visit her."
Chloe chose not to say anything in response. Instead, she simply cast a brief glance at Janet and continued walking past without engaging further.
Chloe never saw what Janet's child looked like.
Chloe went to the classroom.
Barbara was sitting in Chloe's classroom.
Since it was an open class and the crew had already informed the school, Chloe had no reason to dismiss anyone.
She just had to ignore Barbara.
She felt repulsed. She had finally come to Pearl Peak City University, such a peaceful place, but Pamela wouldn't let go and brought all these annoying people over.
She focused on her teaching.
Chloe's class was very peculiar. Except for Jeffery, all the students tacitly sat in the back.
Chloe was used to it.
Today, Chloe found a case study of a company and asked the students to prepare the company's balance sheet.
The students started busy calculations, and Chloe walked around the classroom. Whenever Chloe noticed students making calculation errors, she would pause and offer helpful pointers.
But she didn't look at two students' positions, one next to Jeffery and the other next to Barbara.
Finally, Chloe asked the students to submit their calculated results.
"Did everyone balance the balance sheet?" Chloe scanned the entire classroom.
"It's balanced." The students' voices were scattered, and some were still pondering.
"You all balanced it?" Chloe questioned. "Raise your hand if you did it."
Except for Jeffery, all the students raised their hands.
Now, Chloe had no choice but to talk to Jeffery.
"You didn't balance it?" Chloe asked Jeffery.
The students below were bowing their heads, secretly laughing.
Barbara, however, was watching with great interest.
She didn't understand anything about balance sheets, whether they balanced or not, but she thought Jeffery was quite handsome.
"No, it didn't balance. It can't be balanced," Jeffery said.
"It looks like Jeffery is the only one in our class who got it right. This company is heavily in debt; it can't be balanced. You all got tricked."
"Jeffery are smart."
"He does have connections."
