Chapter 380 She Was Interested in Donovan's Past
Donovan had a knack for planning ahead. He swapped out Kimberly, who was looking after Francis, for the more experienced Helen Hill.
Chloe had never met Helen and didn't have her WhatsApp. So, she thought it was impossible to contact her.
Chloe trusted Maya more.
"I want her to trade my photo for Francis's," Donovan said, lounging on the sofa.
Maya was confused. "What do you mean?"
"She can trade one of my photos for ten of Francis's. It's a good deal."
Donovan got up and headed upstairs. After a few steps, he turned back to Maya and said, "Photos from websites or magazines don't count. If she tries that, she can forget about seeing Francis ever again!"
Maya was stunned; she knew Donovan was serious.
She had to figure out how to tell Chloe without upsetting her.
Finally, Maya messaged Chloe on WhatsApp: [Chloe, when I was taking photos of Francis, Mr. Blake saw me. He wants you to trade one of his photos for ten of Francis's. He wants to see how much you care about him. But photos from websites or magazines don't count. See, he really cares about his place in your heart.]
Chloe read the message and couldn't help but smile bitterly.
She didn't see it as Donovan seeking her affection; she thought he was being difficult.
He probably knew Chloe didn't have a photo of him!
Hoping against hope, Chloe searched her album for a photo of Donovan.
But she found nothing.
Chloe was desperate.
Donovan likely knew she wouldn't find his photo, which was why he offered the tempting deal of "one of his photos for ten of Francis's."
But even if it were a hundred photos, Chloe didn't have a picture of him.
And he said no downloaded photos.
Chloe thought long and hard and came up with a tricky idea: Ask Cynthia.
Chloe was sure Cynthia had a photo of Donovan in her wallet, probably from his high school days.
After much thought and mental preparation, Chloe messaged Cynthia: [Where are you? Let's meet up.]
Cynthia: [Sure, I'm at the library right now.]
Chloe, who was studying at home, replied: [How about you come to my place to chat? I'll treat you to lunch afterward.]
Cynthia: [Okay.]
About twenty minutes later, Cynthia arrived at Chloe's house.
Chloe poured water for Cynthia and said, "We haven't talked about Donovan since last time. I actually want to talk about him today."
Chloe placed the water in front of Cynthia.
Cynthia smiled. "I always thought he was a sensitive topic between us, so I didn't bring it up. I didn't expect you to mention it today."
"What was he like in high school? Was he worth pursuing all the way to a Ph.D.?" Chloe was laying the groundwork for asking about the photo and was genuinely curious about Donovan's past.
