Chapter 586: The Two of Us
Chloe was pregnant again? When did she conceive?
Was it before or after she had a falling out with Donovan? If she's pregnant, does that mean their issues are resolved?
Cynthia couldn't get them back together.
That evening, she sent Chloe a WhatsApp message: [Chloe, I heard you're pregnant.]
[News travels fast.]
[I heard it from Saoirse and Isabel in the cafeteria. I wasn't sure if it was true, so I wanted to ask you.]
[It's true. I've been feeling unwell lately, just staying at home.]
[Can I come see you on Saturday?]
[Sure, I'm just bored at home.] Chloe replied.
Chloe knew Cynthia would come to see her, gather information, and then twist or change the meaning before telling Donovan.
On Saturday, Chloe cleaned her house until it was spotless, waiting for Cynthia's arrival.
The doorbell rang.
Chloe got up to open the door, and Cynthia was holding a lot of things.
"Here you are. Pregnant women have a lot to deal with, so I bought you a bunch of nutritional supplements," Cynthia said gently.
"Why so formal, Cynthia? We're so close," Chloe dressed in comfortable loungewear, as she went to pour Cynthia some water and peel a banana.
Cynthia noticed a very elegant middle-aged woman lying on a recliner nearby.
"Is that your mom?" Cynthia asked casually.
"Yeah, I just brought her back from Emerald Isle," Chloe replied, frowning slightly.
The frown on Chloe's face came from the fact that she had already shared the news of Amelia's suicide with Cynthia back in Verdania.
But when Cynthia suddenly asked this question, it suggested she might already be aware of Chloe's family situation.
How did Cynthia know? Did Donovan tell her?
If Donovan told her, it should have been after they got married, which was recent. But who told her about what happened at Brayden's wedding?
Could it have been Cynthia?
Chloe's dislike for Cynthia deepened.
"Your mom is so beautiful," Cynthia praised.
"Yeah, she used to be an actress," Chloe said deliberately.
Most people would respond with "Really?" or "No wonder." But Cynthia just said, "Oh."
Chloe was even more certain that Cynthia already knew about her background. But how did Cynthia find out?
Cynthia probably wasn't focused on Pamela. She got back to the main topic, "Chloe, how does it feel to be pregnant?"
"Not great. I always feel unwell, nauseous, and my stomach hurts," Chloe said.
"Is the baby Donovan's?" Cynthia finally asked.
"Here, Cynthia, have some water," Chloe deliberately avoided answering the question.
"Chloe, back in Pearl Peak City, we had a lot of disagreements, but that's because we're close."
"Now that you're in Maple Valley, I realize how much I care about you."
"I know the baby is probably Donovan's. You two had a falling out, and Donovan suddenly came to marry me. I did consider your feelings, but I was selfish for once."
"I've liked Donovan since high school. When he came to marry me, how could I say no?"
Seeing that Chloe wasn't being honest, Cynthia decided to get close and say something sweet to her. "Now that I'm Donovan's wife, if you're pregnant, it's our duty as a couple to take care of you. Right?"
The words "as a couple" still stung Chloe deeply.
Chloe gritted her teeth, "Cynthia, you don't need to feel so guilty. Actually, this baby..."
"What about the baby?" Cynthia asked eagerly.
