Chapter 244 What Are You Afraid Of?
Brayden walked out of Chloe's bedroom and saw Donovan still sitting there smoking.
"Leaving?" Donovan asked Brayden, "Not continuing to chat?"
Donovan's tone carried a strong element of teasing.
His word chat sensitively hit Brayden's nerve.
He realized Donovan suspected them.
"No. Goodbye, Mr. Blake," Brayden said and then left.
Chloe stayed in her room for a long time, feeling cold and a bit dizzy, wanting to close the door and sleep.
But as she was about to do so, she saw Donovan standing outside, about to push the door open.
Thinking of how he had caused Karen to lose her baby, Chloe trembled in fear, always feeling like her babies might be the next victims.
The Chloe of the past only knew one-tenth of him, just the tip of the iceberg.
"What's the matter?" Chloe asked Donovan, her voice trembling.
Scared by Donovan again tonight, Chloe turned pale.
"What's wrong with you?" he asked Chloe.
"Nothing, just feeling a bit cold," Chloe answered.
"Cold?" Donovan took her hand, which was icy cold.
Her hair was wet when she went to the living room earlier.
"Lie down," he ordered Chloe with a slight frown.
Uneasy in her heart, but now carrying two children, she couldn't resist even if Donovan did something, so she obediently lay down on the bed, shivering all over.
Donovan covered her with two blankets and went to the bathroom to soak two hot towels and place them on her forehead.
Then, he called someone, put his hands in his pockets, and stood by Chloe's window.
"She probably caught a cold. You have to come. Not the same place. I'll send you the address. And you better bring some medicine," Donovan said to the person on the other end of the phone.
Chloe fell asleep in a daze.
In her dreams, she felt like a pile of ice, and then she leaned against a pile of firewood, gradually warming up.
She woke up because she heard voices.
A bitter taste spread in her mouth. Chloe felt thirsty and especially hot, feeling uncomfortable all over.
"Is she okay?" It was Donovan's voice.
"If it were an ordinary person, it would be fine. But because she's pregnant, she can't take medicine casually. Luckily, I brought a lot of medicine that pregnant women can take in advance. Go get it for her." The speaker was a very kind man, probably in his sixties.
Seeing Chloe awake, Donovan said to her, "This is Dr. Green."
"Hello, Dr. Green." Chloe said in a hoarse whisper.
"Mrs. Blake, stick out your tongue so I can take a look," Dr. Green said and then asked Donovan, "Mr. Blake, could you go get the medicine first?"
Chloe obediently stuck out her tongue.
However, her gaze kept following Donovan with unease.
It wasn't that she was suspicious, but if it was Donovan who brought her the medicine, she would be very afraid.
If she miscarried now, not only could it lead to lifelong infertility, but she could also lose three lives in an instant. Jane hadn't helped her terminate the pregnancy before. After so long a time, she naturally had to fight to keep her babies, and she had already given up on studying abroad just to bear these two children. If she miscarried, she would lose everything.
"Alright, get a good sleep. Sweating tomorrow will make you feel better," Dr. Green said, "I'll give you some more medicine to take tomorrow."
After giving Chloe the prescription, he went to the kitchen to say goodbye to Donovan and left.
Chloe saw Donovan still preparing the medicine. She secretly took a photo of the prescription Dr. Green had written.
About half an hour later, Donovan came in with medicine, a kind of oral liquid.
He handed it to Chloe.
Chloe suddenly became very nervous, staring tightly at the medicine Donovan handed her, swallowing hard.
She looked up at Donovan.
"What are you afraid of?" he asked.
