Chapter 176 You're Really Shameless
"What?" Donovan looked at the check in his hand. His luck had been good lately, with people constantly giving him money, first Chloe, then Brayden. How ironic! Donovan's eyes were cold and hostile, with a rejecting smile on his face.
"The other day, I overheard Chloe and her mom talking. She still owes you ninety-three thousand. I'll pay it for her," Brayden said.
"You?" Donovan lowered his gaze to the check on the table, picked it up, and tore it into pieces. "Who are you to her?"
"Donovan!" Brayden stood up angrily.
"It's our family matter, no need for your interference," Donovan said, "I'm busy. Get out!"
An angry Brayden stormed out. Just as he left, Karen arrived. It was Karen's first time in Donovan's office.
"Mr. Blake, that house you gave Jacob to live in, right? Now Barbara..." Karen began, but Donovan picked up the phone and called the sales department.
"Fire Barbara," Donovan told the sales manager. Then, he lit a cigarette and casually asked Karen, "Satisfied?"
Karen's face turned from anger to satisfaction. "Mr. Blake really understands women. You know what I want, very satisfied. You better inform Jacob to have Barbara leave Sunshine Bay City."
"Okay, I'll call him right away!"
In front of Karen, Donovan called Jacob and told him not to let Barbara stay in that house anymore. How could Jacob not obey Donovan? He agreed immediately.
Karen thought to herself, ‘Donovan really understands women.’
Moreover, Donovan listening to her made Karen feel elated, thinking highly of herself... She even went to the sales department and saw Barbara packing with a pale face, which made her smile.
Donovan had been thinking of firing Barbara, and now, with Karen's arrival, he had the perfect excuse. It's good to use a borrowed knife to kill! All of Barbara's resentment was directed at Karen.
Donovan then called Chloe and asked her to come over. Chloe wondered why she hadn't done anything wrong recently. Why did he want to see her?
"Aren't you going to apologize to me?" Donovan's first words when Chloe entered his office. He sat leisurely in the office, looking at Chloe's puzzled face.
"Apologize? Why?" Chloe blinked her big eyes.
"Your grandmother is sick. Why was Brayden in Sunshine Bay City? Why did you let him go instead of me?" Chloe thought, ‘How does he know everything?’ He's putting her in a difficult position.
"I didn't want to upset you," Chloe muttered, "he might have a job at the Sunshine Bay City hospital. It just happened. I said a few words. My mom was there. What could we do?"
"What do you want to do?"
"I don't want to do anything with him. I just want..." Chloe tried to placate Donovan, "I just want to be with you."
Donovan remained silent for a moment, teasing her, "You're really shameless!"
"As if you're so modest," Chloe muttered.
"From now on, report everything related to him to me," Donovan commanded Chloe.
"Everything?" Chloe raised her eyebrows in surprise, "The work in the audit department is very busy."
"Otherwise, I'll transfer you out of the audit department," Donovan said casually.
There was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Donovan said, and Chloe felt a gust of wind behind her. Then, Charles came in.
"Should I leave first?" he tentatively asked.
"No need, just sit over there."
Charles sat on the nearby sofa with some hesitation. Chloe, still reluctant, kept her head down. With another person present now, it was even harder to speak her mind. She knew that Donovan could easily transfer her out of the audit department with just a word, just as he had brought her in initially.
"Don't want to be transferred?" Donovan continued to ask Chloe.
"Yes," Chloe nodded.
"Then report everything to me as I said."
"But what if he contacts me, and I'm busy at the time forget to report to you, what should I do?"
"Like this?" Donovan seemed to be considering how to handle this situation. He even turned to Charles for his opinion, "What should we do?"
"It's easy. Keep a diary," Charles blurted out.
Chloe thought, ‘Charles, you're intentional!’
