Chapter 575: A Complete Mess
Jane had just made a request, and a message came through: [Dr. Allen, I got your contact from Chloe. Is my mom really okay?]
[She's fine, just a minor surgery. Your mom wasn't lying.]
[Thank you, Dr. Allen. I'll leave my mom in your care.]
[Don't worry. But honestly, there aren't many boys like you who treat their parents so well these days.] Jane intentionally wanted to chat more. Normally, she would have just replied "don't worry" and left it at that.
[Nowadays, I'm far away. If I don't care about my parents when they're sick, that would be truly wrong.] Jeffery sent.
Jane's lips curled into a slight smile. People say that those who treat their parents well are likely to treat their spouses well too. Jane thought Jeffery's character was impeccable and liked him even more.
Of course, many married women say never to marry someone who treats their parents too well because they might always side with their parents. But Jane, not being married yet, didn't feel that way. She thought it depended on how the person treated their in-laws. Jane was determined not to let Jeffery be put in a difficult position.
But first, she had to make sure Jeffery was hers.
[I'll take good care of your mom.] Jane promised sincerely.
After chatting with Jeffery, Jane opened Jeffery's Facebook profile. Jeffery rarely posted anything. His activity over the past six months was minimal. Apart from sharing updates about the Pearl Peak University basketball games, his profile picture was of him in military uniform, saluting.
In the photo, it seemed like Jeffery was looking at Jane, and that gaze touched Jane's heart.
Jane saved the photo.
Because she was thinking about Jeffery, Jane had long forgotten about Chloe and Donovan.
Chloe was added to a WhatsApp group called "New East Group Rebecca Division," which included Donovan, Charles, Victoria, and Mario, all of Chloe's old acquaintances.
Mario sent a WhatsApp message: [Due to the special nature of the Rebecca Residential Community, there will be overtime tomorrow. Meeting at 10 AM in the large conference room on the tenth floor.]
Chloe's mind was foggy, and she didn't want to go.
Victoria even added Chloe on WhatsApp and sent her a message: [Chloe, I can't believe you're really back in Maple Valley. It's great that we can work together again. You've made quite some progress. Let's catch up after the meeting tomorrow.]
[I have a bit of a headache. I don't want to go.] Chloe lied.
[Why are you being so coy? You're an independent woman now. You can't just skip work whenever you feel like it.[] Victoria comforted her. [Come tomorrow, and I'll treat you to lunch.]
Chloe had no choice but to agree reluctantly.
The situation between Chloe and Donovan was complicated, and Chloe didn't know how to face Donovan. She felt exhausted.
That evening, Chloe received a WhatsApp message from Neil: [Chloe, this case is really tough. The doctors didn't find any drugs in Bradley's system. I have no idea what Pamela did. Pamela keeps telling the police that she was filming when Bradley was paralyzed and completely denies switching identities with her sister. It looks like it will take some time for the truth to come out. How are things on your end?]
Chloe wanted to replied, [Not great, it's a mess.] but she didn't.
After all, Neil didn't know Donovan.
