Chapter 255 Mr. Blake of the New East Group

In the following days, Chloe rarely saw Donovan.
When he left early, Chloe was still asleep; when he returned, Chloe had already gone back to her room.
Their timings never seemed to align.
Chloe guessed that if she wasn't pregnant, she might have been hit for lashing out at him last time.
Fortunately, being pregnant, Donovan had been restraining his temper and desires.
On the evening of the 28th, Chloe received a WhatsApp message from Sofia.
Sofia: [Jane, Logan, and I, we're thinking of coming over to see you on the night of the 30th. Ever since you got pregnant, you've been out of touch.]
Chloe thought to herself, 'Could they come over?'
She needed to ask Donovan.
If they did come and Donovan didn't show them respect, he might just drive them away.
But she didn't want to text Donovan, so she simply took a screenshot of Sofia's WhatsApp message and sent a "?" below it.
Donovan didn't reply.
Taking a deep breath, Chloe realized she either had to wake up early or wait for him to return to talk to him in person.
After these few days, Chloe felt she had been too impulsive before, disrupting their peace, and now it felt awkward to ask him for anything.
In the evening, Chloe sat in the living room watching TV.
At ten o'clock, Donovan returned.
"You're not asleep yet?" he asked Chloe.
His voice sounded unsurprised, as if Chloe waiting for him was within his expectations.
"Not yet. I wanted to discuss something with you," Chloe's voice was gentle.
"What?" Donovan changed into his home clothes and sat next to Chloe.
"I messaged you on WhatsApp that day," Chloe pulled up their chat history, "I just wanted to ask you if they could come over."
Donovan had seen the message long ago, and he knew the content, but he just hadn't replied.
At that moment, his eyes fixed on the note Chloe had for him. [Mr. Blake of the New East Group.]
He used to be a "stranger," and now he was "Mr. Blake of the New East Group."
He had a surname now, but it felt no different from dealing with her clients whether he was present or not made no difference.
Lately, Donovan had been holding back a lot, and if Chloe hadn't been pregnant, he would have made her pay.
"Your house, do as you please," with that, Donovan left for his room.
Of course, Chloe was happy with this response, so she immediately replied to Sofia: [Okay, come over on the 30th, we'll make plans together.]
Sofia: [Did Mr. Blake agree?]
Chloe: [He doesn't care about me.]
As the New Year approached, Maya had been busy, and Donovan had hired a few hourly maids to help with the cleaning. Meanwhile, Chloe had been idle, spending her days checking emails and waiting for an offer from Suncrest University.
Finally, the 30th arrived, but Donovan still went to work.
In the morning, Chloe could hear fireworks outside.
The view from the 18th floor was great, almost capturing the entire neighborhood's fireworks display.
She remembered last year when things weren't so pleasant between them due to Paisley and Barbara.
Chloe hoped for a smooth year ahead, to safely deliver her child and receive the offer from Suncrest University.
Her phone beeped, and Chloe picked it up to see a message from the bank—this year, Chloe received a project bonus of $148,000.
Chloe was pleased, as earning money herself felt more fulfilling than receiving it from others.
She messaged Brayden: [Thank you, boss.]
Brayden replied: [No need to thank me; you deserve it. Besides handling two projects independently, you brought in a lot of orders for the firm. I still owe you.]
Chloe: [The firm just started, I understand. But still, thank you, boss.]
Brayden replied with a cheerful emoji.
Chloe thought to herself, 'Technically, some of this money belonged to Donovan, as he had collected the data for those projects and then passed it on to me. But with a boss like him, he probably wouldn't care about this small amount of money.'
At two o'clock in the afternoon, Donovan returned, followed by Charles.
"Mr. Wilson, welcome!" Chloe greeted Charles with a smile.
"My folks are all overseas. Mind if I crash your place for a meal and ring in the New Year together? Are you cool with that?" Charles inquired Chloe.
"Absolutely, you're more than welcome! I've got three other friends dropping by tonight as well." Chloe responded.
"Four people, perfect for a card game," Charles glanced at Donovan.
"Which four?" Chloe glanced at Donovan and asked Charles.
"Your three friends and me," Charles replied.
Chloe discreetly pointed at Donovan while he turned away.
"Him?" Charles said with a meaningful look, "He won't."
Donovan turned back, giving Charles a look that said: You're lying!
"He won't. We're not letting him join the card game today." Charles stated, "Chloe, wishing you a Happy New Year."
With that, Charles presented Chloe with a gift, a strikingly beautiful brooch.
"Thank you, Mr. Wilson. I love it." Chloe examined it, feeling its weight. It was clearly a quality item.
Soon after, Logan, Sofia, and Jane arrived.
"Did you see that? Luckily, I brought cards," Sofia said, taking out a set of exquisite crystal cards from behind.
Jane gave Chloe clothes as a gift, but the packaging didn't make it clear who they were for.
"For me?" Chloe asked as she unwrapped the clothes.
"Of course not. These are for my nephew and niece. Once your boy-girl twins are born, they must wear the clothes I gave them," Jane said somewhat proudly.
Just then, Maya came out of the kitchen with fruits, overhearing the conversation.
