Chapter 311 Too Terrifying

"Where is Chloe? Isn't it her grandma's funeral?" Logan asked Sofia.

"Chloe can't make it. Mr. Blake won't let her go, but she suspects her grandmother's death was not normal and wants us to investigate," Sofia explained to Logan in detail.

Logan nodded.

"How about this? I go up alone, and you wait downstairs? I'll see what I can find out," Logan suggested.

"Alright. You've proven to be a worthy friend to Chloe. Her husband, Donovan, is so controlling. As her friends, we naturally have to share some of her burdens," Sofia said meaningfully.

Logan's face turn grim. "Who wouldn't agree? Mr. Blake is just concerned about her. If it were me, I wouldn't let her go either, especially in her condition."

Sofia remained silent, thinking to herself, 'When Logan gave the example, shouldn't he have said, 'If it were you in her condition, I wouldn't let you go?' Why did he still refer to Chloe?'

This showed that in his heart, whenever he thought of Chloe's husband, he imagined himself in that role.

Although Logan never showed it, it was hard to hide his affection; it always slipped out in his words and actions.

Sofia was heartbroken.

In fact, she had always known that Logan had a crush on Chloe. But today, she felt utterly disheartened.

"Chloe gave me five thousand dollars. I'll transfer it to you, and you can decide what to do with it," Sofia said, then lowered her head and transferred the money to Logan.

They arrived at Daniel's neighborhood in Sunshine Bay City.

Logan parked the car downstairs, and Sofia stayed in the car while Logan went up alone.

Only Daniel was present in the living room.

"And you are...?" Daniel asked Logan.

"Oh, I'm the son of Grandma Morgan's friend. I heard she passed away, so I came to pay my respects." Logan said, "This is a small token of my appreciation."

With that, Logan handed Daniel an envelope of money.

Feeling the thickness of the envelope, Daniel immediately warmed up to Logan and didn't question his background any further.

If he were a scammer, he wouldn't give so much money.

"The funeral was held this morning. You can pay your respects here," Daniel said.

Logan handed over a flower.

While Logan was paying his respects, Daniel went to the kitchen.

Chloe's grandmother's funeral was organized by a special team. After everyone had eaten, the house was in a mess, and Daniel went to clean it up.

"Barbara, should we report this to the police? This whole thing was orchestrated by that star, Paisley. We've suffered such a huge loss; she can't just walk away from it," a voice came from one of the bedrooms.

Daniel's house was small and had poor soundproofing, so Logan easily overheard their conversation.

"Report to the police? If the police investigate, won't they find out that after I noticed the house was on fire, I woke you all up but let Grandma Morgan's room continue to burn until she was suffocated from the smoke before putting out the fire?" Barbara asked, "Do you want to ruin your daughter's life?"

Logan was getting increasingly furious. He couldn't believe that such a cruel person could exist, someone who would let her grandmother burn to death! How could she be so heartless?

"But this was all Paisley's doing. She got you fired and then pretended to send us a package, which we forgot to open, and it caught fire in the middle of the night. She wanted to kill our whole family but didn't succeed. Of course, Grandma Morgan died, so we have one less burden," the voice continued.

"And now, no one in the world will ever know about that secret!" Barbara said triumphantly.

"But we can't let Paisley get away with it," Betty added.

"Of course not. In time, she will pay the price. She helped us get rid of Grandma Morgan, so she has some merit. But I won't let her off easily. I've already leaked her tax evasion and her inappropriate relationship with the director to the media. Plus, she found someone to substitute for the cornea donor to gain trust. One thing after another will make her suffer. Tonight, Paisley will get what's coming to her. She won't have an easy life," Barbara said.

"Good girl!"

Barbara had pieced together the story of Paisley having her father, Tyler, pretend to donate corneas from bits of conversation she overheard while working as Paisley's assistant. She knew that if she divulged it to the press first, she would have the upper hand.

Paisley's bad temper was well-known, and she had long been disliked by many people.

Logan frowned deeply. Being in this house made his spine tingle.

He went to the kitchen to say goodbye to Daniel and then left.

Once downstairs, his whole body was trembling.

He lit a cigarette with shaking hands.

Seeing his pale face, Sofia hurriedly asked, "What happened?"

"It's too terrifying. I'll tell you on the way," Logan said, immediately turning the car around.
