Chapter 239 Donovan Gazed at His Shirts

Betty noticed Chloe's delayed response, solely fixated on scrutinizing the tags on the shirts, realizing her subtle cues had missed the mark. Coupled with the recent incident involving Donovan's driver, Betty felt somewhat displeased.

"Aren't you going to buy a few for your husband?" Betty asked, "Christmas is just around the corner."

Chloe snapped out of her thoughts.

"Are you not buying a few shirts for Brayden? You have moved into our house," Betty reminded Chloe again.

Upon hearing the term "husband," Chloe's mind immediately flickers to Donovan.

She thought, 'But, Betty's right. Brayden let me stay at his place and takes care of me every day. Besides getting a few orders, I haven't really appreciated him. Since Betty said that, maybe I should get him a couple of nice things.'

"In what size does Brayden wear?" Chloe instinctively inquired.

"You're carrying his child, and you still don't know his clothing size?" Betty expressed some astonishment. While she refrained from being overly critical of others, she couldn't help but feel a tinge of pity for Brayden. "He's 5.9 feet."

"Alright." Chloe sensed Betty's subtle shift in tone and swiftly selected two grey shirts for Brayden.

When they got home, it was nearly dusk.

Upon returning home, Chloe felt a wave of fatigue and retreated to her room for some rest.

She received a message from Jacob.

Jacob: [If you had chosen Brayden sooner, we could have avoided all this mess. Donovan's heart is too cold, elevated me up so high, only to drop me so hard. I'm at a loss about this Christmas. You should choose someone who loves you, and it's far smarter than chasing someone you're in love with.]

Chloe didn't reply.

But for the first time, she felt Jacob might be onto something.

Since Amelia's death, Chloe had not seen any changes in Jacob. Moreover, with his actions, she was even more reluctant to deal with it.

So, she didn't ask how did Karen's child miscarry.

Brayden returned.

He lived on the second floor, and his excuse was that Chloe was pregnant, so it was inconvenient to sleep together.

Chloe called Brayden into her bedroom.

"Today, Betty and I went shopping, and I bought you two shirts; try them on," Chloe said.

"You bought them for me?" Brayden's eyes suddenly lit up.

Chloe suddenly remembered what Jacob said about finding a husband who loved her rather than one she loved.

"Yes, I just happened to see them. Besides, it's almost Christmas. You've helped me so much," Chloe said, "Give them a try."

Brayden took off his outer coat in front of Chloe.

Chloe turned her head at the right moment.

"It fits well. Chloe, you have good taste," Brayden said happily, like a child.

"Okay, good. It's very late. I'm going to rest now."

Upon hearing Chloe's words, Brayden left.

As he went upstairs, Brayden was worried.

Donovan had called him today and wanted to talk to him. He was uneasy. After all, Donovan was the child's father, so he was afraid Donovan might have objections later.

The next day, Brayden wore the shirt Chloe had bought for him and went to Steamy Bean Cafe.

Donovan said he would meet Brayden there.

Donovan had just finished some tax-related matters with Charles, and they happened to pass by here, so he asked Brayden to join them.

"Mr. Blake, you wanted to see me?" Brayden sat across from Donovan.

It was afternoon, and there were few people in the cafe.

"Yes," Donovan said, staring at Brayden's shirt.

Donovan had been staring at Brayden's shirt since Brayden entered. His gaze always made people feel uneasy.

"What's the matter?" Brayden asked.

"Chloe is living with you. Take care of her," Donovan said.

Brayden smiled and said, "Don't worry, Mr. Blake. They are my children and my woman, I know."

Brayden's counterattack was ruthless.

"Did Chloe buy you this shirt?" Donovan asked.

"Yes. Christmas gift. Is it nice, Mr. Blake?" Brayden's tone was somewhat triumphant.

"All she does is give shirts as presents. Let's get out of here." Donovan signaled to Charles.

The two of them got up and made their exit.

Brayden sat there looking crestfallen. It seemed that Chloe had given Donovan shirts before.

After getting in the car, Charles secretly observed Donovan, afraid he might get angry.

The statement by Brayden just now was cutting.

Of course, Charles could guess how angry Donovan was.

After all, those were their brand, but now Chloe had chosen shirts of their brand and gifted them to someone else.

Charles saw Donovan closing his eyes, seemingly calm.

Before long, Donovan opened his eyes and started making a phone call.
