Chapter 205 Did Donovan Sign?
Donovan glanced at Chloe and picked up his smartphone.
While dialing, he kept a close eye on Chloe.
Chloe thought to herself, 'It looks like Donovan is going to pay for sure. Maybe he would give even more to shut Paisley up, which might just stoke Jacob's greed further!'
Donovan was on speaker.
"Donovan," Jacob's voice rang out, and Chloe could almost picture her brother's fawning expression.
"Are you getting hitched?"
"Yeah, yeah. Did Chloe spill the beans to you?" Jacob inquired.
"Yeah, what do they want?" Donovan probed.
"They're asking for a hundred grand in bride price, and they also mentioned..."
"I'll throw in two hundred grand. What else?" Donovan interrupted.
"They also want the house to be in our names. Donovan, I know this might be a stretch for you. I feel bad even bringing it up."
"We'll sort the paperwork tomorrow," Donovan concluded before ending the call.
Seems like Jacob demanding a hundred grand in bride price was legit.
Chloe wasn't fibbing.
Paisley's stirring the pot is for real, and Donovan seems keen on taking her down a notch, subtly driving a wedge between her and Barbara.
Chloe had pondered if he'd sign, but she didn't anticipate him covering Jacob's dowry.
And not just covering it, but adding a cool hundred grand on top.
He's probably using this chance to flaunt his wealth to Paisley, not giving a hoot about who Jacob's marrying.
Chloe sensed a hint of manipulation this time around.
"Well then! If that's the case, I'll be on my way." With that, a crestfallen Paisley made her exit.
Donovan shredded the divorce agreement.
His gaze remained fixed on Chloe.
"Is marriage a game to you?" he questioned.
"No. It's not like that."
Now that Chloe had the floor, she needed to ensure Donovan wouldn't call the cops before divulging Barbara's coercion.
"You're not angry anymore, right?" Chloe sat on the sofa, gently stroking Donovan's chest.
"What is it? Speak." Donovan could see that Chloe had something to say.
Chloe then told the whole story. The reason she hadn't mentioned Barbara's coercion earlier was that she feared Donovan would get angry and irrational and call the police.
"Barbara is my uncle's last hope. She didn't really harm me, so please don't call the police," Chloe said.
"Okay, I won't call the police." Donovan stroked Chloe's hair. He smiled, but his eyes turned cold.
He wouldn't call the police; he would let Paisley and Barbara destroy each other!
At least one of them had to die for him to be happy.
"Where's my pizza?" Donovan asked. "Last night you said you'd make it for me forever."
"You didn't eat it! I thought you finished it," Chloe said, surprised.
"If you don't make it, I won't eat," he said.
"Then tomorrow! Tomorrow is Saturday, I'll make pizza for you all day at home."
Donovan didn't say anything, but his anger finally dissipated.
What Chloe didn't know was that Clara made pizza today, but Donovan didn't even come to the dining table.
Clara went back to her room alone, heartbroken.
Gordon was also angry with Donovan, but he had no right to get angry.
He could only comfort his wife.
After Paisley got in the car, Barbara asked, "Did Donovan sign?"
Paisley slapped Barbara across the face. "You didn't know about Jacob's engagement?"
"Jacob is getting engaged! I didn't know," Barbara said with a confused look.
"Don't know, don't know. Is 'don't know' all you can say? Maybe Chloe didn't know how to ask Donovan for money, but now we've given her a chance! Do it if you want, otherwise get lost!" Paisley said harshly to Barbara.
Barbara had never heard such curses before, and her face looked terrible!
It seemed that unless they got rid of Chloe, Barbara wouldn't be able to make a comeback!
This time, they had made almost perfect preparations. Barbara had told Betty in advance about Daniel Morgan's leg atrophy and had her mom tell her aunt. They knew the aunt would persuade Chloe to be considerate of Barbara, as Chloe always listened to her aunt.
They had Chloe's signed divorce agreement in advance, intending to show Donovan that his little wife wanted to divorce him.
As long as Donovan got angry, Chloe wouldn't have a chance to speak.
They never expected the engagement of Jacob to come up.
Chloe had completely exonerated herself.
