Chapter 190 Donovan Can Fight
The young boy stepped out of the gates of New East Group, where a car was waiting for him in the corner. Paisley deliberately arranged for a taxi instead of using her own chauffeured car. Barbara and Paisley sat side by side in the back seat.
"How did it go?" Paisley looked at the young boy with a mix of anticipation and nervousness.
"Sis, I said everything you taught me to say," the young boy replied.
"What was their reaction?" Barbara was even more eager to know how Donovan reacted upon finding out that his wife was the daughter of a "woman of the night."
"The woman kept crying, and the man was very angry," the young boy said, shifting his gaze.
Paisley and Barbara were ecstatic.
"Sis, about the money you promised, are you going to give it to me?" the young boy asked Paisley.
Paisley took out two hundred dollars from her pocket and handed it to the young boy.
"Now, we need to seize this opportunity. Since their marriage was to please Grandpa, let's go find him now," Paisley said, checking her watch. She had Chloe and Donovan's schedule under control, delaying their daily departure by an hour. It was now 5:40, so they would have to wait a while longer.
Paisley swiftly instructed the driver to head toward the hillside villa. Only Grandpa was having dinner at home. Barbara stayed in the car, fearing that Chloe might find out about her collusion with Paisley.
"Grandpa, where are Donovan and Chloe?" Paisley inquired.
"Just now, Donovan called and said he and Chloe went out for Western food," Grandpa casually replied. "Let's wait for them at home."
Paisley sat on the sofa and started chatting with Grandpa.
"Grandpa, I went to New East Group earlier, but Donovan wasn't there, so I left. I overheard people there talking about...," Paisley paused intentionally as if finding it difficult to continue.
"Why stop there? Just say it, I'm not a stranger," Grandpa said kindly.
After finishing his meal, Grandpa sat on the sofa. He also sent a WhatsApp message to Donovan: [When are you coming back? Paisley is here.]
Donovan replied: [Soon.]
Grandpa: [How soon?]
Donovan: [Twenty minutes.]
"Today at the company, I heard the receptionist discussing that Chloe isn't her parents' biological child; she was apparently adopted. Do you know about the cornea transplant Donovan had? I initially thought it was my father's cornea given to Donovan, but later found out it was Chloe's father's. Donovan might have been with Chloe out of gratitude, but now, even that connection seems to have faded. I heard Chloe's mother was a woman of the night. Grandpa, coming from a prestigious background, please don't let your reputation be tarnished," Paisley carefully observed Grandpa's reaction.
"Donovan had a cornea transplant?" Grandpa asked Paisley. "When did this happen?"
Paisley was surprised. "You didn't know?"
"I didn't," Grandpa replied.
Paisley felt a bit uneasy. Was she revealing too much to Grandpa this time? He didn't even know about Donovan's past blindness.
After a moment of contemplation, Grandpa calmed his emotions and asked Paisley, "What about Chloe...?"
"I heard Chloe's mother was a woman of the night. I'm worried it might affect the Blake's family reputation," Paisley cautiously watched Grandpa's expression.
Outside, the sound of a car pulling up could be heard.
Suddenly, Grandpa's face turned pale, and he clutched his chest. "Maya, bring me my medication," he said.
Grandpa had always had heart problems.
Sensing the urgency, Maya quickly fetched a pill to help his heart.
Paisley felt guilty. Why did Grandpa have to fall ill at such a critical moment? Was it because of Chloe's background or something else? If it was because of her, how could she explain herself?
She wanted to leave, but Donovan and Chloe had already entered the house.
"Grandpa, what's wrong?" Donovan and Chloe both exclaimed.
Grandpa lay on the sofa, pointing at Paisley. "She... she just said Chloe's biological mother was a woman of the night, and it angered me."
"I... I didn't!" Paisley suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
She used to think of Grandpa as a kind old man, so why was he suddenly accusing her?
"You?" Donovan's eyes were cold as he looked at Paisley.
"I... I didn't!"
Donovan had Chloe support Grandpa and asked Maya to call the doctor.
With a swift motion, he slapped Paisley across the face.
The slap echoed loudly.
Chloe, who had been supporting Grandpa, trembled at the sound. She never expected Donovan to resort to violence, especially against a woman.
