Chapter 363 She was Francis's biological mother

Wade was waiting for Chloe at the airport; Chloe had already let her know she was coming.

Wade needed to give Chloe the paper copy of the offer.

When Wade saw Chloe at the arrival hall, she waved and called out to her, "Chloe!"

Chloe looked up, saw Wade, and waved back.

"Chloe, what are your plans now that you're here?" Wade asked as she started the car. She'd been working in Verdania for a few years and had a car.

"I might stay a while. I'm here for grad school, after all."

As Chloe spoke, she opened WhatsApp and messaged Donovan: [I've arrived safely.]

Chloe kept it vague, worried that if anyone was monitoring her phone, they wouldn't believe her relationship with Donovan was over, which could put Donovan and Francis at risk.

Donovan didn't reply.

"My lease is up. I found a place earlier; you should check it out too. If you like it, we can share the rent. What do you think?" Wade asked.

"Sounds good."

"Want to go see it now?"

"Yeah."

Even though they were going to see the place, Chloe's mind was on her phone.

She wondered how Donovan felt about her sudden move abroad.

But he still hadn't replied.

Chloe felt uneasy.

The new place was close to Suncrest University. Wade worked for a media company and freelanced writing essays for international students. The place was also near her job.

The apartment was clean and cozy, perfect for two girls.

"I've checked it out. If you're in, we can split the rent and utilities. What do you think?" Wade asked, leaning against the door.

"Sure, sounds good," Chloe said, a bit distracted.

"Do you miss Francis or Donovan more?" Wade joked.

"Neither. If I missed them that much, why would I come all the way here to study?" Chloe replied.

Chloe didn't have much stuff, so she unpacked quickly.

As it got darker, Chloe ate a burger and video-called Sofia. It was morning in Aurora Isle, and Sofia was having breakfast outside.

"Chloe, where are you?" Sofia asked.

"I came to Verdania to finish the studies I paused when I had the baby."

"That's so sudden," Sofia said, surprised. "Did something Carol said trigger you? If her words triggered you to leave home, should I just die? Everyone in our department has a grad degree, and I'm still frustrated about it."

"It's not sudden. I've always wanted to come to Verdania, you know that. I talked to Donovan last night and then came. Oh, by the way, can you tell Donovan I've arrived safely and rented a place? I sent him a WhatsApp, but he didn't reply," Chloe said.

"Mr. Blake didn't reply? Did he not see it? Why doesn't he pin your WhatsApp?"

"Alright, you eat. I'm starting Verdania language lessons tomorrow." With that, Chloe ended the call.

Perhaps it was the time difference, but Chloe found herself in a sleepless condition her first day in Verdania.

Watching the sky brighten, she silently counted sheep.

"One, two, three..." She counted over five hundred sheep but still couldn't sleep.

She tossed and turned, checking her phone to see if Donovan had replied, even taking it with her to the bathroom.

But he never replied.

Chloe thought, 'He said, "If you go abroad, I'll never see you again," just to scare me into staying. Honestly, he can't stop me from coming back. After all, I'm Francis's biological mother.'
