Chapter 639 The Gift

Charles strolled over to Charlotte's office, one hand casually tucked in his pocket.

He gave the door a knock.

"Come in," a woman's voice called out.

He swung the door open and spotted Charlotte fiddling with two wires, testing their reaction when they touched. Sparks flew, and she quickly pulled them apart.

People always say men look their best when they're working hard, but right then, Charles realized women look just as impressive when they're deep in their work.

Charles kept quiet and plopped down on the sofa next to Charlotte's desk, crossing his legs and watching her.

Once she finished, Charlotte glanced up and noticed Charles.

Her serious expression instantly brightened.

"Hey, old man! You're here? Why didn't you give me a heads-up?" Charlotte got up and poured him some water.

Charlotte's sudden cheerfulness made Charles a bit wary; he knew she was up to something.

"Didn't want to interrupt your hard work. Did you study engineering?" Charles asked, taking the water.

"Undergrad in radio electronics, grad school in drone manufacturing."

"You finished grad school?" Charles asked, surprised.

Charlotte looked like she was in her early twenties, like a college student, yet she had already graduated from grad school.

A proud smile spread across Charlotte's face. "Thanks for the compliment!"

"What compliment?"

"You said I look young and beautiful." Charlotte raised her eyebrows, feeling smug.

"What do you need from me?" Charles cut to the chase.

He felt that dragging the conversation on might lead him into one of Charlotte's schemes.

"Well, last time I was at Mr. Blake's place, Francis asked me for a drone. I had the tech team make one for him. Can you deliver it?" Charlotte's tone was unusually sweet.

Charles didn't say a word.

Seeing his silence, Charlotte quickly added, "Oh, Mr. Wilson, you're not old at all, not one bit. When I called you 'old man' earlier, I was just joking! Don't take it seriously! Here's the drone."

With that, Charlotte pulled out a big cardboard box from behind her. "This is the drone. Please deliver it to him."

"Why don't you deliver it yourself?"

"Well, about that," Charlotte looked a bit embarrassed, "last time, Maya thought I wanted Jeffery to marry into my family. She probably still thinks that way. If I go personally, it might not be good. Also, when you go, make sure Mr. Blake sees it."

"Why does he need to see it?" Charles asked again.

"Mr. Blake knows about these things."

Charles went quiet.

After a long pause, he finally said, "If I don't understand it, why ask me to deliver it?"

"That's not what I meant," Charlotte pouted, looking a bit annoyed. But Charles found it kind of cute. "I mean, since Mr. Blake understands, you should show it to him. I didn't mean you don't understand. Also, you need to get Mr. Blake to say nice things about me."

"Got it." With that, Charles picked up the drone and left.

He knew exactly what Charlotte was up to. She wanted him to get Donovan to say nice things about her in front of Maya, so Maya would change her opinion of her. Charlotte was pretty crafty.

Charles texted Donovan: [Donovan, you home?]

[Yeah. You coming over?]

[Yep, bringing you a gift.]

[You're bringing me a gift? What's the catch?]

[No catch, it's a drone from Charlotte for Francis.]

[The only gift, and it's not even from you.] Donovan teased Charles again.
