Chapter 635 Returned to Charlotte
Donovan shot a quick look at Chloe, "If you say so, I wasn't really paying attention."
Chloe just stared at him, speechless.
Usually, if everyone thinks a relationship is a bad idea, it probably is.
Maya was worried too. She had no clue how serious things were between Charlotte and Jeffery. If it wasn't too late, she hoped they'd break up.
Maya wasn't just listening to gossip; it was because Charlotte's dad had a high-ranking job, and Jeffery was just a low-level soldier. Even if he could help Jeffery, it would look bad. People would think Jeffery was only with Charlotte to climb the social ladder. Even if he truly loved her, folks would assume he had hidden motives. Jeffery, a good guy, would get labeled as someone using his girlfriend's family to get ahead.
Maya thought, this can't go on.
"Francis, let's go, I'll take you out for some fun." Maya decided and took Francis to the nursery.
She wanted to send Jeffery a message, plus Charles was there to talk business. She didn't want to be in the way.
Charles, sitting comfortably, said, "Charlotte gave Jeffery some underwear, and he accepted it. Seems like their relationship is pretty serious."
Donovan had told Chloe about getting Charles to go after Charlotte.
But Charles still didn't know that Jane had feelings for Jeffery.
He didn't realize this was all part of Donovan's plan to save Rebecca Residential Community and get rid of Charlotte, who was a strong rival for Jane. Charles only knew part of the story.
When Charles mentioned the underwear, Jane frowned. The same underwear Jeffery accepted from Charlotte, he had turned down from her.
Donovan and Chloe both looked at Jane.
Charles was sharp; he caught on quickly. He said to Donovan, "Donovan, this is a pretty smart move."
Donovan grinned, "It's alright."
In the nursery, Maya sent Jeffery a careful message:
[Jeffery, how serious are you and Charlotte? If it's not too deep, you should think it over. First, the gap between our families is huge, and people will talk. I don't want that for you. Second, she's really beautiful, and you know, generally speaking, good-looking girls can be trouble. It's not a bias, but wouldn't it be a hassle if something went wrong? Don't give Charlotte any false hopes, or she'll take it seriously.]
Jeffery got the message.
He was still in training and had Chloe on his mind. No one else had caught his heart.
He thought about it and realized Maya was right. Since he didn't plan to get serious with Charlotte, he shouldn't give her any false hopes. So, Jeffery decided to return the underwear to Charlotte.
After all, underwear is a very personal gift. Accepting it meant accepting Charlotte as a person, which is usually something a girlfriend gives to her boyfriend. And they weren't there yet.
When he got back to camp, Charlotte came to see him.
Jeffery handed the bag back to Charlotte.
