Chapter 89: Can You Call Donovan?
After the one-month term, Chloe and her two colleagues returned to their original office from the New East Group shopping mall.
James was thrilled to know that Chloe had given up her job in the audit department. On the day Chloe came back, he promoted her to be the financial manager. As long as Chloe worked under him for the rest of her life, he could rest assured.
Winter was approaching, and Chloe's winter clothes were still at her mom's house and had not been brought to the hillside villa.
On Saturday, when she visited her mom, Aunt Riley asked her to bring some essential items for her mom. Chloe wanted to go back to her mom's house to tidy up her own clothes.
Her house was an old-style building without an elevator. When Chloe was going upstairs, she accidentally sprained her foot, and it swelled up badly.
She planned to go home and apply a hot compress, but to her surprise, as soon as she opened the door, she was startled by the scene in the living room.
Her brother Jacob and a woman were having sex completely naked in the living room.
Chloe couldn't bear to watch and quickly turned away, but they acted as if nothing had happened.
"Jacob, who is this? How did she get your key? Are you cheating on me...?" The woman said sarcastically while calmly wrapping herself in a towel.
"What are you talking about? She's my sister, my own sister. She works at New East Group, married to Donovan, a rich man." Jacob responded with even more acidity. He still held a grudge against Chloe for taking away a thousand dollars from him last time, and this time he was determined to get revenge at all costs.
"Have you finished getting dressed? I'm going inside to pack my things." Chloe said awkwardly, facing away.
"Hey, isn't this the boss lady from New East Group? Why do you still have to go inside to pack your clothes? You don't seem like a wealthy man's wife with your petty behavior," Jacob's girlfriend Karen added with even more sarcasm, leaving Chloe puzzled.
Karen turned to Jacob again, "Didn't you say Donovan's grandfather was sick? From what I see, your sister seems more like a maid that Donovan bought home!"
Karen's hostility towards Chloe had nothing to do with Jacob. It was because Chloe was the woman Brayden liked, and she herself also had feelings for Brayden.
"Hey, sis, weren't you pregnant? Why is there no sign of it now? Don't tell me you lied to your brother last time about being pregnant. And it wasn't a marriage of convenience, right? Who would believe that? If you really got married, didn't Donovan buy you any clothes? Let me have the thousand dollars I gave to my nephew. Give it to me." Jacob reached out for money from Chloe.
