Chapter 456 Checking Facebook

On September 29th, Chloe returned to Maple Valley and went to Sofia's house.

Sofia was angry when she picked Chloe up at the station.

"I thought you wouldn't come back. People as heartless as you are rare in this world. Your degree must be really important, more important than anything else," Sofia muttered to Chloe.

Chloe knew she had let Sofia down over the past few years and didn't argue back.

"I come to Maple Valley, and you won't even treat me to a meal?" Chloe teased. Chloe and Sofia weren't ones for formalities.

"We won't eat outside. The food my maid makes is so delicious, why waste money? Come on, let's go home and eat," Sofia replied.

Chloe followed Sofia back home. Logan was at work and hadn't returned yet.

Sofia checked the time. "He should be back soon."

After getting married, Logan moved out of the house. With the money he made from his game, he bought a house. Now, the whole family couldn't be happier, and Sofia was even expecting another child.

Sofia called her son Loren over to greet Chloe.

"Loren's grown so much?" Chloe exclaimed, feeling a pang of sadness as she thought of Francis.

"Yeah, Chloe, even though I wasn't the best in school and I'm not the best at work, you can't deny that I'm the happiest woman now. Logan hands over his paycheck to me every month, and I manage the household finances," Sofia said proudly.

"Alright, no one can beat your happiness. Remember, I get to be Loren's godmother," Chloe said, with a smug little expression.

In front of Sofia, Chloe reverted to her old self.

"Who wants to be Loren's godmother?" a voice came from the doorway.

"Chloe?" Logan's eyes lit up when he saw Chloe. "You want to be Loren's godmother? Do you know who his godfather is?"

"Who?" Chloe asked.

She thought to herself, 'Could it be Donovan?'

She had never imagined Donovan would have the heart to be someone's godfather.

Sofia coughed at Logan's words, and neither of them said anything.

The food made by Sofia's maid was indeed delicious, unlike any restaurant food she had ever tasted. It was comforting and tasty, and Chloe enjoyed it very much.

"Hey, Chloe, look at your son. He's really quite the troublemaker," Logan said, looking at his phone.

"What is he up to?" Chloe asked, excited.

Logan showed Chloe his phone screen, flipping through photos one by one.

Sure enough, it was Francis.

"Where did you get these photos?" Chloe asked.

"Mr. Blake's Facebook. Mr. Blake often posts photos of Francis now," Logan replied.

"I haven't checked Facebook," Chloe said, trying to cover up her embarrassment.

The fact that she was blocked on Donovan's Facebook would be too embarrassing for Sofia and Logan to know.

Chloe had two phones, each with a different number.

One phone was from three years ago, which she hardly used. When she first moved to Unity City, she would occasionally check to see if anyone contacted her, but she never responded. Gradually, no one contacted her anymore. Because the phone had never been active and was rarely used, she paid little attention to it. Besides, she had a new phone now, so she rarely looked at the old one.

Sofia noticed Chloe's embarrassment and quickly changed the subject. "Chloe, are you still in touch with Jacob?"

"No, this time I came back to see my mom, and maybe see Jacob. We can't become strangers, right?" Chloe didn't know what Jacob was like now.

"Speaking of Jacob...never mind. Forget it." Sofia felt she had said too much and lowered her head to continue eating.

Sofia's half-finished sentence made Chloe feel uneasy and guilty. She guessed that Jacob must have done something to offend Sofia.

The reality was that Chloe’s car had broken down on the road last time, and she had driven it to a nearby repair shop. The issue was minor and could have been fixed for a few hundred dollars, but Jacob had charged her two thousand dollars.

Since the car was already fixed, Sofia had no choice but to pay him the money.

Despite feeling awkward because of Jacob, Chloe decided to reach out to him. She sent a WhatsApp message: [Jacob, let's visit mom's grave together sometime.]

Visiting Amelia's grave was secondary; the main reason was that she hadn't seen Jacob in years. They had grown up together, and even though Jacob wasn’t perfect, Chloe still cared about him.
