Chapter 487 Borrowing Money

After hopping in the car, Chloe felt a bit out of it. Luckily, the school was bustling, and she really enjoyed her job.

Once the driver stopped the car at Willow Grove Estates, he hopped out and carried the boxes upstairs for Chloe. Jeffery and some students were coming back from a basketball game and lent a hand as they passed by.

"What's all this?" Jeffery asked, picking up a box.

"I went back to Maple Valley, and Donovan packed all this food for me," Chloe said, making sure to stress "Donovan" so Jeffery would get the hint that there was no chance between them.

"Mr. Blake is way better than me; I can't compete," Jeffery said sincerely, thinking, 'How can I compare to Donovan? Maya works as a nanny at Donovan's place, which already puts me way behind. The stuff Donovan gives Chloe, I can't afford, and Chloe even has a kid with him.'

Since Saoirse and Isabel got back to school, Isabel had been spreading the word that Chloe was Donovan's wife and they had a big, happy family, so everyone knew. Even though they didn't know Chloe and Donovan were divorced, Jeffery didn't want to mess up this "happiness."

Chloe got home, washed a few apples, and munched on them while chilling.

Her phone buzzed with a WhatsApp notification. It was a message from the academic office: [A public class by new teachers is scheduled for next week, with professors at the school grading it.]

The notice was pretty sudden, but it was a good chance to show off the teachers' skills.

There were over twenty new teachers at the school this year, and Chloe was one of them. She flipped through the textbook, prepped the course materials, and then sent a WhatsApp message to all her students: [Next Wednesday, we will discuss Big Data and Decision Analysis in a public class. Please prepare in advance.]

This group was for all freshman grad students in the Finance Department, and everyone responded positively.

On Monday, Chloe saw a notice from the logistics department on the school's bulletin board: [The school has bought a piece of land outside and plans to build houses. Teachers who want to buy a house should sign up quickly.]

Chloe thought for a moment, 'In the future, I'll definitely settle down in Pearl Peak City, but for now, the house at Willow Grove Estates is enough for me, and I want to buy a house in Rebecca Residential Community.'

Originally, "Rebecca Residential Community" was just part of her job. But after Donovan named the community "Rebecca," it felt different, and she suddenly felt a strong attachment to it.

"Chloe, I'm one of the reviewers for your class on Wednesday," Cynthia said, appearing next to Chloe. "I have the recommendation forms. We'll see how you do then."

"Really? Then I'll have to ask you to put in a good word for me," Chloe said.

Chloe was confident Cynthia would vouch for her. Cynthia was super easy-going, and Chloe was pretty sure of her teaching skills.

"Thinking of buying a house?" Cynthia asked, glancing at the notice. The school had announced this a while ago, and Cynthia was already in the loop.

"No, the house I have at the school is enough. Just looking," Chloe said, noticing Cynthia's gaze fixed on the notice. "Are you thinking of buying a house?"

"Yeah. The price of these houses is a steal, like one-tenth of the market price, so everyone wants one. But you have to pay in full, and I don't have that kind of money. My family can't help either," Cynthia said, a bit embarrassed. "Chloe, can you lend me some money?"

"All my money is tied up in investments," Chloe said. When she divorced, she had invested all the money Donovan gave her. But seeing Cynthia in a tough spot, she said, "Why don't you ask Donovan?"

"Borrowing money is tough," Cynthia said with a bitter smile. "Even for old classmates, it's hard. Plus, he doesn't just give out money for free."

"How about I ask him for you?" Chloe thought Cynthia was trustworthy.
