Chapter 374 What Kind of Woman Did I Like?
Janet was speechless when Donovan asked her that.
She came here just to spend more time with him.
What was once an unspoken understanding was now out in the open, making her feel awkward.
"No, Mr. Blake. As long as you aren't affected by the fake news, it's fine. I'm leaving." Janet wiped her eyes with the back of her hand.
The gesture was innocent and kind of cute.
After she turned around, she thought Donovan would call her back, but he didn't. He just let her go.
Now, only Charles and Donovan were left in the office.
"Donovan, there's definitely something fishy here. Janet's not that simple. Want me to investigate?" Charles asked.
Donovan calmly smoked a cigarette, the smoke swirling around him.
"No need," he said.
"No need? Janet clearly has a hand in this. First, she 'accidentally' bumped into you; then she got those naked photos with you in the headlines. Now, everyone in Maple Valley links her to you. Plus, she's copying Chloe's style! She's trying to be the kind of woman you like," Charles said angrily.
He couldn't stand women like Janet, who pretended to be something they weren't.
Lost in a daze momentarily, Donovan's hand got burned by the ash.
"The kind of woman I like?" He flicked the ash into the tray and asked casually.
"The Chloe type—innocent and weak on the outside but strong-willed. She has her own ideas and doesn't even listen to you; naturally beautiful without makeup, and she has great poise. Janet's just copying the surface stuff, but she lacks the real poise," Charles said, clenching his fist.
"You talk so much about her. Have you fallen for her?" Donovan asked.
"Come on, Chloe's your woman. How could I dare? But seriously, Donovan, don't you need to investigate? Janet's scheming; she must be planning something else," Charles insisted.
"No need," Donovan said calmly.
He had a pretty good idea: it could be Barbara's doing or the two of them working together.
Janet might want money, but it was more likely that she wanted him. It could also be to make Chloe abroad sad.
If Chloe would really be sad, he wouldn't stop it; he would even amplify the situation.
He wanted Chloe to see the photos of him and Janet in bed from abroad, get angry, and come running back into his arms.
"Let the news media spread this more," Donovan told Charles.
Charles was speechless.
"Donovan, can you tell me what you're thinking?" Charles asked.
"I'm not thinking much. I also want you to find a way to let Paisley know about this. She'll handle it for me," Donovan replied.
Shifting Paisley's focus from dealing with Chloe to dealing with Janet was a smart move. It would make them fight each other.
"Okay." With that, Charles left.
Even if Charles didn't find a way to let Paisley know, she would find out.
After all, they were in the same country, and information spread quickly nowadays.
After finishing her shoot in Aetheria, Paisley returned to Maple Valley.
Since being exposed by Barbara last time, she had lost her popularity. She wanted to make a slow comeback, but Donovan had withdrawn his support, making her almost like an ordinary person now.
That day, she saw the news again and got angry.
She liked Donovan, and besides, Donovan was the only one who could help her make a comeback now. She needed to please him.
