Chapter 703 Bit the Bullet and Went
Coincidentally, Barbara also came here today. She wanted to see what Jeffery was doing here yesterday. She didn't call or text Jeffery because of what happened yesterday.
Barbara had gotten out of the car and hugged Jeffery without his consent. She knew Jeffery was resistant, and since Matthew was there, she didn't explain. She just wanted to take this opportunity to continue interacting with Jeffery.
She had been to Jeffery's house, but no one was there, so Barbara came to the Celestial Peak Building to see if she could run into Jeffery. Unexpectedly, she saw Maya and Jeffery talking in the lobby.
She wanted to hear what they were saying, so she quietly followed them upstairs.
In Ann's office, Maya looked around.
"Jeffery, where is this?" Maya asked anxiously. "Why aren't you in the military anymore? And if you're not in the military, why didn't you go back to school?"
"Mom, this is where I work. My boss is named Ann. I...I left the military," Jeffery said.
"Left? Why did you leave?"
"I made some mistakes in the military and got expelled. I can't go back to school either. Considering the thesis issue, I'm in a tough spot. Just think of it as if I never attended graduate school," Jeffery said as he opened his computer.
Maya was instantly flustered. "Why? You've always been so excellent since you were a child! Jeffery, you didn't even tell me. If I hadn't heard them discussing it yesterday, I wouldn't have known. You didn't graduate from graduate school, and you don't even have a degree certificate."
"Mom, don't worry so much. I still have my bachelor's degree," Jeffery comforted Maya.
Maya just sat there wiping her tears, saying, "What kind of misfortune is this? Ever since you went to Pearl Peak University, ever since you met Chloe."
"Mom, it's not Chloe's fault!" Jeffery said sternly.
Barbara, listening outside, hated Chloe even more. She wondered what kind of ideas Chloe had instilled in Jeffery! That wicked woman!
Maya said, "Why did you have to fall for Mr. Blake's wife?"
Jeffery clenched his hand tightly. "Fate is something no one can explain. And you should stop hanging out with that Jane."
"Jane, too?" Maya asked.
"Just don't get too close to Chloe."
"I took a day off today to spend with you. My once good son has turned out like this, and my heart..." Maya started wiping her tears again.
Barbara thought, 'It's unlikely I'll get to spend time with Jeffery today, so I might as well leave.'
But now that she knew where Jeffery worked, it would be easier in the future.
Maya indeed stayed with Jeffery the whole day, buying him lunch and dinner. By the afternoon, she went home, feeling somewhat scared. Because Jeffery had been expelled from the military again, Maya's old views on Chloe resurfaced. It was because of Chloe that Jeffery's path had become increasingly difficult, but Maya didn't show it.
On her way back, Barbara received a call from Matthew, saying there was a role for her.
Barbara felt a bit apprehensive, but she hadn't acted in a long time. If she didn't take this role, her acting career might come to an end, so she decided to go for it.
