Chapter 538 Famous Throughout the School
At noon, Jake didn't want to eat, so Cynthia took him to a fancy restaurant. They were originally in a corner when Cynthia saw Chloe come in with an elderly man she didn't recognize. Surprised, Cynthia let Jake play outside by himself while she went over to listen.
Chloe's private room was in a corner, with the door facing the back window, almost no one else. After the waiter served the food, they never came back in.
Cynthia overheard the convoluted story and learned about Chloe's biological mother. She even heard the name Dylan, but Cynthia didn't know who Dylan was. She assumed he was someone Chloe knew from Maple Valley.
After the elderly man left, Chloe held a vinyl record of Scarf. It seemed Derek wanted to use this record to tell her about his relationship with Neil and to let Neil know that Derek liked Chloe. This time, it wasn't just about Neil telling Chloe about her background; it also conveyed Derek's feelings.
Derek had always been so thoughtful, and this time he was very serious, wanting a response from Chloe.
Chloe's thoughts were entirely preoccupied with something other than Derek. She held the vinyl record, thinking about her background.
The real Pamela was Chloe's biological mother, but she had gone mad, which was utterly shocking to Chloe.
Chloe sat there, holding her forehead.
Her phone rang; it was Donovan.
"Where are you?" Donovan asked.
Chloe snapped out of her trance and glanced toward the window. It was already dark. She suddenly remembered that Francis had mentioned coming to have dinner with her. "I'm at a fancy restaurant."
"Have you eaten?" Donovan asked.
"No, I just met someone at the restaurant who told me something that's been bothering me for a long time. I want to talk to you about it." Chloe ran her hand through her hair, feeling a bit agitated and unsure of what to do.
"Tonight?"
"Yeah." Chloe said, knowing that it was a long story, one she might have to tell Donovan for a long time, maybe all night.
"I'll come with Francis. Should we meet at the cafeteria?" he asked.
"Okay."
After hanging up, Chloe noticed several messages on WhatsApp from Jane. She had been so engrossed in her conversation with Neil that she hadn't noticed the notifications.
Jane: [Chloe, what are you doing? Donovan is famous all over the school! Come check out the bulletin board. It's everywhere, and it's quite something.]
Jane had sent Chloe a photo, adding: [This is just one of them. The bulletin board is full of the pictures.]
Chloe looked closely and realized it was a love letter Cynthia had written to Donovan years ago. The words were very intimate, expressing a strong desire to spend a lifetime with him.
Chloe wondered, 'Who posted this? The love letter Cynthia wrote to Donovan should have been in Donovan's possession, right?'
Chloe then received a call from Cynthia and answered immediately.
"Chloe, I'm so embarrassed. Now that this has been exposed, I can't face anyone. I once loved Donovan so much that he was my entire world, to the point of losing myself. Chloe, see you in the next life." With that, Cynthia hung up.
"Where are you? Cynthia, what are you doing?" Chloe tightly gripped the vinyl record.
Chloe kept dialing Cynthia's number repeatedly. Finally, the call connected, and a child's voice came through. "My mom is going to jump off a building. She's on the roof of the Stellar Corp building."
"Wait, I'm coming right now. Hold on to your mom!" Chloe rushed out, first calling the police and then quickly hailing a cab.
