Chapter 58 Not Showing Your Husband Any Respect, Huh?

That evening, Chloe slept in her dorm room.

Donovan hadn't texted or called, which left Chloe feeling uneasy, not knowing what he was thinking.

The next day at work, the training department suddenly sent out a message: [The training scheduled for Friday has been moved to this afternoon. It will be conducted by Mr. Blake, and today, Mr. Blake will be covering the topic of Corporate Crisis Management Introduction. Please attend on time.]

The training department had created a group chat specifically for the Rising Star team, which included all the executives who would be teaching the sessions.

Of course, Donovan was part of that group.

Normally, Donovan's sessions were scheduled for next month, so why had his been moved to today?

He always seemed to be operating on a higher plane, one that Chloe couldn't begin to fathom.

Not understanding it, Chloe chose not to dwell on it.

However, Sofia sent Chloe a text on WhatsApp: [Let's go together this afternoon.]

Chloe didn't want to see Donovan.

She'd already decided to act recklessly in front of Donovan.

[Not going.] Chloe replied curtly.

[Look, I know you two are having a tiff, but you can't let it get in the way of your career.]

[I don't want to see him.]

[Want to or not, he's your husband. You both got your marriage license, didn't you? If you don't go, aren't you showing your husband a lack of respect? Is he going to let that slide?]

Sofia might have been busy at work, with too many chat windows open, because she accidentally sent that message to the training group chat.

Chloe, also at work, noticed that Sofia hadn't replied and thought she was just slow to respond, so she didn't think much of it.

That was until Sofia's coworker nudged her and asked with wide eyes, "Chloe and Mr. Blake got their marriage certificate?"

Sofia's eyes widened, "How did you know?"

"Didn't you say?" The coworker held up her phone.

Sofia tried frantically to retract the message, but it was too late.

Knowing that she had made a huge blunder, Sofia was overcome with embarrassment.

With over twenty people in the training group chat and Chloe the only one from the finance department present, her reaction was slow, but this was a juicy piece of gossip, and it wasn't long before the news spread like wildfire.
When everyone started whispering "Mrs. Blake" behind her back, Chloe felt a jolt of surprise: 'Who were they talking about?'

It wasn't until Sofia said with evident embarrassment, [Chloe, check the training group chat.]

Chloe thought, 'What's the fuss about? It's just the afternoon training session.'

But as she opened the chat, she was stunned.

[You need to delete that message.]

[I can't delete it. You've got to punish me,] Sofia sent with an emoji of a face crying.

Chloe's mind raced: 'This was bad. Her marriage was meant to be a secret by express demand, and now the whole company knew. How would he deal with her now?'

Donovan was also in the training group chat. She wondered if he had seen it.

Colleagues were discussing it openly: "Chloe's countermove was impressive. She held on to Paisley and didn't let go. She got the president to replace the microwave and then leaked her own marriage news. Ruthless move!"

"Of course, Paisley is a formidable opponent after all. Her position was hanging by a thread."

It seemed as if the coworkers wanted Chloe to overhear, not bothering to lower their voices.

"Shh, she's Mrs. Blake now. Better to hold your tongue. you never know how this might come back to bite you."

Chloe initially planned to skip the afternoon training, but after causing such trouble, she decided to gauge Donovan's reaction.

In the afternoon, under everyone's watchful eyes, Chloe went to the training room.

She didn't sit at the front. Instead, she chose a seat at the very back.

"This is your fault. You've doomed me," Chloe whispered to Sofia.

Sofia responded with an expression full of regret, "I had no idea it would get sent to the training group. It wasn't on purpose. I didn't look closely when our private chat notifications popped up."

Donovan took the stage, booted up his computer, and began the session.

The colleagues occasionally glanced at Chloe in the back.

She slouched even lower in her seat.

Donovan stood there with a noble air, tall and commanding, with a seriousness that disallowed any casual banter during his class.

Throughout the session, Chloe tried to read his emotions, but his face revealed nothing.

At the end of the class, Donovan left homework for the group.

"Somebody didn't want to be here but gave me the honor of attending after all. I'm sure this particular student knows what to do next. Tomorrow, this student will submit the homework directly to me."

Donovan was smiling, but it wasn't a kind smile, nor was it pious. There wasn't a trace of warmth in his eyes.

His words were sarcasm, a clear message to the person who had shown him 'respect': Challenge accepted.
All eyes were fixed on Chloe, silently judging her every move. Her colleagues knew something was up: Mr. Blake had seen Sofia's message and, shockingly, had offered no rebuttal...

So it appeared that Mr. Blake and Chloe were indeed married.

Chloe wished she could just disappear into thin air.

Her mind was a cluttered mess, filled with regret.
