Chapter 482 Severe Depression
"I'll get someone to take you back to school. Chloe's gonna be a few days late. I'll take her there." Donovan said.
Isabel and Saoirse nodded. "Alright, we'll call Ms. Baker when we leave."
Donovan knew Isabel was calling to make sure Chloe was okay. It seemed Chloe hadn't told Isabel and Saoirse about her relationship with Donovan, which made them a bit suspicious of him.
So, Donovan just nodded and agreed.
Around nine, Isabel dialed Chloe's number before they were ready to head out. It took Chloe a while to pick up. She felt awful, her throat dry. "Hello," she croaked.
"Ms. Baker, we're leaving today. Mr. Blake said you should rest for a day. He's sending someone to take us back to school. We're heading out now. Take care," Isabel said.
Chloe's mind was foggy; Isabel's words barely registered. She mumbled something before hanging up and fell back asleep.
Maya had taken Francis out to play, leaving Donovan alone at home. He wasn't working and had gone back to the bedroom, leaning against the bed with a book. Chloe woke up at two in the afternoon. Donovan had already had lunch downstairs, and Francis was napping.
Chloe had no idea what time it was. Donovan was still reading, with the heavy curtains drawn.
"You're awake?" Donovan asked when he saw her stir.
"What time is it?" she asked groggily.
"Two."
"Two in the morning?"
"Two in the afternoon," Donovan replied without looking up.
Chloe frowned, remembering Isabel's call in the morning. "Did they leave?"
"Yeah."
Chloe sat up abruptly, a bit pissed. "What do you want them to think of me?"
Donovan ignored her and kept reading.
Chloe tried to get up, but her body was sore, and she couldn't move, thinking, 'It'll get better in a bit.'
She lay back down and dozed off again. When she woke up, she was still in a lot of pain. She thought, 'Maybe I should hit the hospital tomorrow.'
This naturally made her think of Jane. Chloe hadn't seen Jane in three years and wondered how she was doing now.
Because of the pain, Chloe didn't get up for dinner and stayed in bed, feeling lazy. With Pamela's threats, Chloe hadn't slept well alone for days. Last night was like the only deep sleep she'd had in three years, probably because he was by her side.
Donovan thought she was just being lazy and sulking, so he had Maya bring up some food. Francis came up to play with her for a while, and Chloe really liked Francis, kept patting his head.
After dinner, Donovan was chilling on the couch downstairs when he got a call from David.
"Mr. Blake, we found out. The guy's name is Derek Bell. He's the founder and a doctor at a famous psychology clinic in Emerald Isle. For a year, he and Ms. Baker were really close. He often went to the school to see Ms. Baker, and Ms. Baker often went to the clinic to see him," David said.
"Are you saying Chloe had a psychological disorder?" Donovan asked.
"Yeah, in her first year in Emerald Isle, Chloe had severe depression," David replied.
Donovan fell silent.
