Chapter 359 Gave You a Reason to Never Return

The sleek business car sped off, and it was clear the license plate was fake.

Chloe thought she might've just crossed paths with a powerful mafia group.

She was shaking all over.

"Chloe, are you okay?" Sofia jogged over. "Who were those people? What did they want from you?"

She looked Chloe up and down. Her clothes were intact, so nothing too bad must've happened.

"Oh, it's nothing, just something about Barbara," Chloe hugged herself and shivered. "I want to go home quickly."

"Okay, sure." Sofia then flagged down a cab.

On the way, Chloe's mind raced. Whether to go abroad or not was originally her decision alone, but now, she had no choice but to leave.

These people were capable of anything. They were dark and powerful, like rats in the sewer, impossible to guard against. For example, they killed her grandmother Walter. Donovan fighting such people was a waste of time.

Chloe didn't want him to get involved.

But she couldn't tell Donovan anything.

"By the way, Sofia, don't tell Donovan about what happened tonight, or else any bad things that happen to our family in the future will be because of you." Chloe exaggerated the consequences to make Sofia take it seriously.

Sure enough, Sofia nodded repeatedly.

When Chloe got home, it was already nine o'clock.

"Just got back?" Donovan scrutinized her from the bedroom sofa, clearly displeased.

"Yes."

"What were you doing?"

"Met some people in the film industry. Their wives are really something, always with PhDs, keeping their husbands in check. I want to keep you in check too," Chloe said.

"You don't need to."

"Not now, but what about in the future?"

"We'll talk about it then," Donovan said.

After a moment of silence, Chloe said, "I want to go to Verdania to further my education. I've already received an offer."

Donovan squinted his eyes and then said seriously, "After all this talk, is it still about this? No way!"

Chloe had anticipated being rejected, but she didn't expect him to be so certain.

"If you want to work, I can arrange it," Donovan softened his tone.

"Now that Francis is older, he doesn't need me as much."

"If you leave, he will never need you again!" Donovan said to Chloe, "I'll arrange for my parents to go back to Dreamonia. You don't need to use this as an excuse!"

Donovan hoped she was just testing him, using it as an excuse to get Gordon and Clara back to Dreamonia.

Not that she was determined to abandon them and go to Verdania!

Chloe frowned slightly. "You misunderstood. It's not because of them. I told you about my grad school application a long time ago. I think this is the best time."

"Don't bring this up again," Donovan gave Chloe his final notice. "And you can't go. If you go, don't come back. I mean it."

After saying that, Donovan stood up and went to the bathroom.

Chloe pondered for a moment and said, "Fine!"

"What?" Donovan stopped in his tracks.

"I'll never come back!" Chloe said, feeling heartbroken.

Donovan couldn't take back what he had just said.

He turned around and looked at Chloe.

"Did my words just give you the perfect excuse to leave and never return?" Donovan asked her.
